Shit. It does look like itβs time to decide which bit to get stuck on.

Some thrill seekers have taken this video from the rear side of the banking, go to 18 or so minutes in.
It looks to me like this has been failing for months if not years.
Given the size of the breach and the difficult access I would think this will be out for months.

Ageing infrastructure. One wonders what the original canal builders had as the inspection/replacement routine for these obviously replaceable parts. Also why was this not picked up before. I bet it is in someone's report somewhere written down as a potential failure. From video posted by duncan. No toad access there by the looks of it. Expensive?

If they all start going like dominoes the whole lot is going to be up the creek badly.
There must be a few of these around and this is not the first to fail.

I'm guessing they will put dams up and get boats out of there.

There was a program recently on how the canals were built and the L & L featured on it heavily. To try to make the best use of the canal it had to wander around a bit it was also in lots of places built up instead of being dug out to save locks and time traveling. I suspect more and more bits of this canal will fail on the built up sections, as for knowing for years its leaking I dont know but I have seen the power of water close up and it can cut like a gas axe at times very quickly

I'm a few miles N and E of the leak, afloat. Yesterday the flow was stopped and the level of water raised 4 inches: I believe the coffer dams are in place, but I also think I need another four inches to risk turning round, I expect CRT will contact me when they are willing to operate the locks and get me out of here! I have ordered a delivery of beer, whisky, and other essential supplies. It could be a lot worse, and of course being retired means I have no time pressures. There are not many leisure boaters about, but I think CRT will have to think up some better solutions if they are going to keep the navigations open, and the stakeholders happy, an epidemic of blue plastic signs is going to raise awareness, but if things get much worse Panorama will be investigating π and that expensive signage may prove am embarrassment.

At least itβs sorted your winter moorings out, not even the most ardent cart supporter can accuse you of βbridge hoping,β now.

She's said she's East of the bust culvert, with enough water in the cut to still be afloat. C&RT will be getting anything trapped between Church and the Summit out of there as quickly as they possibly can.

Itβs humourous Tony you know that thing you struggle with and manage to come up with a funny once every ten years. Maybe if you took your head out of your arse for ten mins?

Twitter is alive with this one, seems some vloggers have been making some noises, see they do have a use!
Its annoying though how it takes one of their friends to get stuck for them to make some noise, i can count 6 breaches in the short space i have been on the canals.
