My daughter's partner lost both of his parents to covid within a week of each other. Both died last January in ICU after a very unpleasant illness. Covid is real anyone that thinks it isnt is a fool.

The fact that you Telemachus have aligned this whole thing with religious fundamentalist beliefs indicates a hook line and sinker situation and any further comment from you will not be made from an open minded position. It's really bad shit to compare those two, really bad. Bad as in not good. Don't do that No it’s not. Believing in some imaginary god is popular in the human race, by far the majority do. But you and I know that god almost certainly doesn’t exist and the people who believe in it from “faith” (and indoctrination) are a bit foolish. And certainly not consistent with their fellows who also believe in god - but a completely different one with different rules. Whilst they are all adamant that THEIR version of god is the right one. That sort of thing is part of the human condition, and it causes a lot of trouble! The covid deniers follow a similar thought process, albeit superficially opposite. Despite masses of evidence to the contrary they have read somewhere that it doesn’t exist and they decided to believe that outlying piece of “evidence” and totally disregard the 99.9% of evidence that refutes their beliefs. It’s weird, not rational and there is no point in trying to convince them of the error of their ways. Yes but you are taking the term "covid denier" too literally. I would wager that there are a very very minute number of people who actually believe that the coronavirus called covid19 does not exist. It obviously does exist. However there are a lot of people, who are often ridiculed by those taking the opposite stance, who believe that the reaction to what is basically a nasty flu like virus, is at least questionable if not potentially rather opportunistic or experimental. I must say I assume that Mr Stabby is intelligent enough not to take the full conspiracy theory route and he knows that this is not just a "made up virus". I also think he is right to question why has a virus, which a statistical massive majority of people recover from, been hijacked and changed forever the way that people interact with each other. It has had an enormous impact on people. Far greater impact going forward, especially for younger people, than the impact in terms of dead people it has had. ETA I see stabby has already made the point sorry I missed that post for some reason.

After about two years of this, is belief really relevant?
These are the times we live in ... I can't see that belief changes anything one way or another.
It is what it is WHATEVER our personal views.
I wear specs because I'm advised they will help my vision ... I have the jabs because I'm advised they will help keep me fit.
And life goes on.

It isn’t if you think covid doesn’t exist. A train driver see lots of railway tracks because they exist. A doctor sees a lot patients with covid because it exists. I've never said Covid doesn't exist. I've said it is akin to the common cold or a moderate influenza outbreak, that the effects have been grossly exaggerated and that the actions being taken will prove far more harmful than the virus. Aegrescit medendo for those who did Latin at proper school. There's no point denying that this is my position, other members have read my posts on numerous occasions. Just your need to deliberately falsify and mis-represent my viewpoint loses the argument for you. Ok well if you are not a denier then it would have been quicker and easier if you’d just have said that. The implication from your previous posts was that you were. So it is just a matter of degree then. What is your evidence for saying that it is akin to the common cold or a moderate influenza outbreak? Are you medically qualified to make that judgement? Or in fact more qualified than virtually every other medically qualified person in the world?

Yes, "Covid denier" is a generic term designed to ridicule anyone who questions Government policy on Covid, and I use the term in that sense. Just the fact that opposition is shouted down with insult proves the point really, because true science can withstand scrutiny.

It's also very convenient to use the word "denier" or "anti" if someone disagrees with you.
In terms of basic logic everyone is denying something, and is also anti something by definition, in any argument.
Someone who thinks that they have accepted a vaccine by free will could be called a "coercion-denier", for example.
Someone who a vaccine could be "anti natural immunity".
I think it would be better to leave that sort of language out as it just gets people all het up and annoyed.

No, covid denier is someone who doesn’t believe in the existence of covid. In the same way that a holocaust denier is someone who doesn’t believe the Nazis exterminated millions of people in concentration camps. If in your expert judgement you think worldwide governments have over-reacted to covid then you are not a covid denier, just rather arrogant in that you think your knowledge is better than nearly everyone else’s on the matter, despite you having no medical training.

I thought a Holocaust denier was someone who did not believe that what Hitler organised was a Holocaust.
Another hijacking of an emotive word.
Would it not be more accurate to call it large scale genocide?
Another one was the September the 11th. The Americans decided to call the location "ground zero" which was already an established term to describe the centre of a nuclear bomb blast.
How fucking rude to the people who were fried as they tried to hide in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. FFS it was just a couple of jetliners flown into buildings. Nothing remotely similar to an atom bomb.
Fuckers always use these words and phrases and demean history.

It doesn’t really matter whether your want to call it a holocaust or genocide, except that holocaust is a more convenient word because you don’t have to specify which genocide you are talking about.

I did Greek briefly.
The only thing I remember was Mr Fisher (also the maths teacher with brain the size of a continent) explaining to me where the word "idiot" comes from.
That's it. Idiotes. I did not employ his services for very long as he was incredibly tedious and I had better things to do with my school days.

Maybe I should tell people how to pronounce it... ... just seems to have a hate thing going on with anyone with a "greek" definition connection I'd advise you to back off before it gets too nasty and personal ... Keep safe, warm and well x
