This would involve planning. I will not accept for a moment that Boris is capable of planning that far ahead. I have heard a similar thing, someone who knows someone high up in the fire service working with the government about a lockdown in the new year. Mate of a mate and all that, probably bollocks. Need to get my house sorted and new shed pub built, you can come round and i can beat you at darts Ian. You can try!

Whilst the number of new cases is rising speedily, at present hospitalizations appear to be holding around the 7,500 mark ... I suppose a rise in hospital occupancy will be the driver for further restrictions rather than new cases alone. The two lads living next door to us are now isolating having tested positive (both in their thirties and having just returned from a foreign holiday) but neither are unwell. We live in hope Rog Well I guess that as pretty well everyman and his dog will be catching this new variant, then everyman and his dog that is hospitalised will be covid positive. Obviously covid may well not be the reason that said person is in hospital. Still, we must continue the destruction of the the future of the young, so as to give the old a few extra months. I suspect the North Shropshire result will guarantee a lockdown comes soon. Boris will inevitably throw a hissy fit and punish us yet again.

Data from South Africa shows no real problems 36 died yesterday high numbers with virus low hospital cases. Of course they have lower population density than us and much lower vaccine numbers. Now here its different south east heavily populated so spread easy also large numbers unvaccinated so I think this is going to be a tail of two halves with rampant numbers daaaawn sarth and lower numbers where population more spread out. If I was the PM I would lockdown the South east now the rest of us should be ok given the reported low symptoms with this new variant. However I dont think we will have another lockdown, as an afterthought the rest of Europe isnt in the same position as us, we are better vaccinated and better boosted so interesting times are ahead

However, itβs just not true that we lead the way on vaccinations rates in Europe. And you can shove your suggestion of lockdowns somewhere painful.

The reality is 4 small countries are ahead of us, booster wise we are doing well, as I said dont think we should have a lockdown as at the moment the omicron variant seems very mild. The only person in the UK to die from Omicron was allegedly unvaccinated and over 70 if you can believe the mirror.

The other thing with comparisons with South Africa is to consider the climate. We have seen in the U.K. that covid becomes a bit of a non-event in summer, but severe in winter. In SA it is mid summer, which could be one reason why their omicron outbreak isnβt too severe.

I find it very amusing that so much is made in the news headlines of the number of people testing positive.
It's just so silly.
Are people really thick? If you test 10 people you may get let's say 1 positive.
If you test 10,000 people you will get more.
It's not rocket science is it. More positive test results is a basic mathematical certainty of testing more people.

Partly true that it isn't an exact (or even very good) way of measuring things because it can't take into account why people are testing.
Just ordered my first set of LFTs (just in case things do go badly and PCR capacity runs out) - mainly in the hope of having a 'normal' xmas.
None of the statistics often banded about by the press should be looked at in isolation or without understanding their limits.

No. Testing is okay but using the number of positive cases "per day" as a scare tactic is dodgy. It would only be relevant if the number of tests carried out was also indicated.
I don't think anyone is saying it doesn't exist.

I don't think anyone is saying it doesn't exist. Many negative tests are not registered with the NHS so no one knows how many have been done. I have done 7 tests so far but have only put them on the Zoe app not the NHS as it's too much faff.

Just received a new box of tests, I thought I should read the instructions. The first thing I noticed was βMade in Chinaβ. You have to laugh!

And I was like "where is naughtyfox when you need him". Yes he was a bit annoying but I sometimes wonder if he was also like a suspension bridge cable. ETA probably too late for him to return given the abuse directed at him previously but it does make me wonder. His main problem, or I suppose mine with him was that he was claiming most of it was happening. Yes we are now vaccinating under 16s but he was stating we were then, which simply wasn't true. It kind of ruins all the out there predictions he was making.

There won't be another lockdown in England during the dates given.
