Sounds like lockdown is from tmw. I believe you will still be able to hold parties in the garden with pizza and wine provided you all wear suits and talk about work a bit.

Have there been other prime ministers referred to by their first names?
I suppose Maggie to an extent but not aware of any others and I think generally people would use the surname.

My grand mother's name and also the name of my mum's godmother. Never saw it as a man's name though.

As per usual, it's just the media creating yet more and more hysteria about CASES... not deaths, not hospitalizations or particularly death... just cases. Assuming most folks have had their triple jabs, if/ when they get it, they probably won't end up poorly or dead. That WAS the whole point of the jabs wasn't it? ... In fact, the ex bosun currently has covid, as do my friends Lee and Sally, as do 2 other friends Nath and Jamie - none of whom feel ill, just frustrated about being stuck at home - all triple jabbed of course.
To give Boris fair credit, he really doesn't appear to want to lock folks down again - if only that Scottish dwarf was less power crazy...
I'm really hoping he doesn't bow to peer pressure and leaves things open until after new year - if only to give folks a chance recover some of the massive losses they've endured in the last 20 months... I was chatting with a coffee house owner yesterday in Stafford that I met the other week and she's still on her arse poor woman. We've all got access to lateral flow tests which we can do as often as we like so why not let folks get on with doing that and getting on with their lives in as normal as way as they can?
Whatever happens in the coming weeks, I'm still going on my nye gay flotilla cruise (well 3 benders on 3 boats with a couple of mates coming along to crew... We'll ensure our boats are 2 metres apart at all times!

The reality is the Omicron variant in South Africa spreads fast but isnt a real killer like Delta is, it has become the dominant variant rapidly sine it was sequenced a month ago. It was more than likely on the go for a month or two before they realised it existed as they were still getting over the last wave. I suspect everyone will catch Omicron no matter what lockdown measures we take, it can replicate 70 times faster than previous variants but doesnt enter the lungs like previous variants, fingers crossed that Boris has it right, this chap seems to cover it well

I've watched him quite a bit over the last year, consistently gives decent information and he links to some pretty high quality technical papers. I like that as it allows you to go to the raw data and see if you agree or not with his conclusions.

The problem with the NHS is that because omicron is so infective that they are faced with large numbers of staff off sick. That means that even if there are empty beds in a hospital to take poorly patients there will be no staff to look after them. Here in Wales we can be fined £60 as a worker for not working from home if it is possible to do so and as a business £1,000! where that places us as a business god only knows as we don’t qualify for any grants since they changed the rules and designated us as ‘professional services’. If furlough comes back in that doesn’t help us as we a take out income as a base salary and dividends so we fall through the net there too. it won’t break us but It’s not ideal.

Perhaps if the NHS had been financed and managed effectively and correctly in the first place, the risk of being swamped wouldn't have been so great.
Amazing how much finance can be produced and scattered by government when they have the political will.
