Where is your evidence that "hardly anyone uses an Oyster card anymore" ? We still have three with money on, so will use them next time we're in town. Both Crossrail maps look identical to me - the exciting holiday destinations of Abbey Wood and Shenfield at one end, with the glamorous Hayes & Harlington at the other from where the spur to Heathrow heads down to the tunnels beneath the airport. That's about it, really. So maybe you can sit on a train and go through London without having to change at Paddington or Liverpool Street, but at the end of the day it's all pretty much what was there in the first place. Like the Thameslink - just seamless instead of having to get off and on again, but the same old railways more or less. The Eurostar was impressive when I used it twice - 2h15m to Paris. Now, that is something. Unfortunately France has gone all Nazi over the Vaxx Passes and nobody wants to go there any more. OK I admit that I was using 'hardly anyone' as a turn of phrase. Most by a big margin use contactless cards now. Better?.... More lies. You have no evidence to suggest this. Everything is completely different at the moment anyway because of the present situation with covid.

Who uses a service that takes an hour? Think about it this way. I want to go to Liverpool Street from Heathrow. Heathrow Express: 15 minutes' wait, 15 minutes to get to Paddington, walk to Underground, go downstairs, catch train to Liverpool Street 30 minutes, total time 1 hour £25. Underground: train comes after 5 minutes, one hour to Liverpool Street (change at Holborn), total time 1 hour 5 minutes £3.30. Yebbut spend an hour on an underground train and you spend the rest of the day blasting black gunk comprised chiefly of brake shoe dust, human skin and pulverised rat droppings out of your nostrils.

There are three times as many contactless card users than oyster card users on the underground.
More than half of travellers use a contacless payment each day.

Also the great thing with using bank cards or phones is your personal journey is recorded. Using an oyster card you can be more (but not completely) anonymous.
People generally want to be tracked for security reasons.

If you only have one chip card in wallet you can leave it there as the contactless works through wallets/clothing etc.

Are you saying you can't lose or drop an oyster card?

No he was saying if you did it's not serious.
I think we can all agree that losing ones debit card is bad news.
Specially now with the £100 contactless payment thing.
Anyone finding an oyster card can use what is on it but unlikely to be £100.

I've always found the Underground to be part of the experience of a day out in London. My grandparents used to live near Oakwood station so we used to pop into London along the Piccadilly Line when I was little. Have been on the Epping to Ongar branch of the Central Line when it really was still part of the Underground. One thing I've had in mind for many years is to travel on all of the Underground.

I have another option that is far quicker to certain places. Yet you keep arguing for some strange reason. Is there a train to the citymof Westminster that takes 15 minutes? Yes or no? No need to argue.
