At one time most bikes followed this sort of design. Harleys are a throwback, pure and simple. Brough was just about the only manufacturer of the period who was more about performance when most builders simply attached two wheels to an engine. It's a long way from the 'head down arse up' philosophy that all race bikes (and those with racy pretensions) subscribe to. Those of us with less flexible bodies will appreciate it more. Personally I find the evolution of racing bikes fascinating but these days they aren't the ones I would prefer to actually ride. Here's two of the best. Honda 250-6 Honda RC30

I like the windows. Always thought that just plasma-ing out the openings was the way to go rather than buying frames.
Might be a nuisance sealing them up though.

The first bike I ever had, aged 17, apart from a Puch Maxi when I was 16, a Kawasaki GA2A. Only 90cc but a 2-stroke and faster on both acceleration and top speed than my CBF125, probably because it weighed not much more than half as much. As with so many vehicles I owned back in the day, I wish I still had it.

Cor you'd have to be a big strong boy to lift that off the boat. I like the front door though.
