Spotted today whilst walking the hound.π No doubt it's faster than the Clockwork Banana but I wouldn't want to have all of that added superstructure on my boat. The Honda just sits in the well deck.

I like the way that the ramp is stored behind the deck the bike sits on. Having said that I wouldn't like to trust such a narrow ramp. Not much room for error there.

There's very little weight in the bike though, 48kg or seven-and-a-half stone and the engine sits very low in the frame which gives it a very low COG. I've never had any problem getting it on and off the boat single-handed and when on occasion passers-by have offered assistance I always politely decline as when the one and only time I did accept such an offer, the other person, well-meaning though they were, was more of a hinderance than a help.

"This term has a simple enough meaning: something that hampers, hinders, or impedes. The OED reveals a variety of spellings: βhynderanceβ (16th Century); βhinderaunceβ (15th-16th Centuries); hindraunce (no dates given); βhinderanceβ (17th Century on); βhindranceβ (19th Century on).
Here we have a word that has definitely lost its βaβ and βuβ but otherwise continues with two accepted spellings. What to do? I prefer βhinderance,β as it more closely approaches speech and the verb βhinder,β

Yeah, I did check first, and as you verbosely point out, 'hinderance' is an archaic form. π

Let's not forget boats on bikes... I used to transport my home built wooden kayak on my sidecar chassis, loaded with camping gear.

Good revival of a thread JimYou and Andyberg have got me gagging to get back on board and spot some suitable posting fodder. Sounds like a great escape (see what I did there ... and they say I'm a vacuous arsehole π) Rog
