The “Original Message” header is present on every email. If the situation changes, there is an Update header. Just looked back on older emailed notices, you are correct. I must admit I read it the same way as Nick and still believe it's still just a restriction. Anyway Rog, won't you be through there by the 12th? As I said hello to Rog as he 'sped' through Wolverhampton Boat Club this morning, he will doubtless be back home by then . At least he smiled and waved, which was more of a response than I got from Stabby's miserable face as we crossed after he was leaving Nuneaton last week. Then again I felt the same later as I was leaving the other side of the town. All these water shortages must be caused by the invasion of boaters from all points north. For the last week, I seem to have met no-one who came from anywhere other than Yorkshire, Lancashire or Cheshire where these poor souls have nowhere to go.

But does it really matter if you don't operate a lock 100% 'efficiently'? Pleasure boating is all about... well... pleasure, so what does it matter if you deal with ladders and walking round a lock 'too much'? Boating these days is mostly for people who want to take things easy - they're not transporting cargo on a commission basis. I have heard many times how many boaters of Ye Olden Days couldn't really care less about the infrastructure and smashing things up, their only aim was to got from place to place as fast as possible so they could make more money. A bit like the eastern European truck drivers who have spread like the plague they are across the roads of other countries. Dog eat dog. Now the canals are overrun by elderly overly-wealthy pensioners boring you to death with details about their hip operation and digging out pictures of their grandchildren to put you into a coma. God yeah. And if you are daft enough to go onto any vaguely related boat forum you'll invariably find at least one insufferable racist twat who's always going on about the latest conspiracy theory. At least the pensioners will shut up if you say it loud enough.

I heard a shout of "Hello Rog" and looked back to wave ... didn't recognise the boat or indeed yourself and was hoping someone would make themselves known here I was quite taken aback to see anyone at all at WBC ... it always seems deserted when we pass by. Lovely looking place so I'm glad it does get used. And of course now I know your habitat it won't be so easy to avoid me you lucky fella 😁 Rog

I wonder how low levels got in 1976 during the big drought? River levels, and canalised river levels, suffered badly that year, . . canal levels were NOT affected at all. Rainfall affects and controls river levels directly, . . whereas the navigation authority has complete control over canal pound levels, independently of rainfall, by regulating the flow along the feeders from reservoirs. Attributing or linking low water levels in canal pounds to low rainfall is utter nonsense, . . and allowing pound levels to drop below normal weir level in hot dry weather is not only bad practice, but is also very damaging to canal banks and the puddle lining. So what is your excuse when the original reservoirs were sold off, with residual feed rights maintained, as is the case with Rochdale Summit? When we have rain all is fine and dandy, when we don't, we scrape the bottom. You probably haven't been up here, the locks are hard for a single handed gimmer with no boats. Shame really, you could have demonstrated the No Ladders while Single Handed technique, which is supposedly faster than using the ladders.

We have searched C&RT notifications and cannot find any 'original' for the two stoppage alerts (Atherstone and Hillmorton). Based on this it appears Telemachus may be correct in that the apparent stoppage alert is actually the implementation date for the restricted openings. I really hope he is correct ... but what a nonsense. Rog

I think 12 August has been chosen so that to compensate for lack of boating, Nick can go shooting the vollies.
Beaters required to flush them out of their huts.

The last couple of years has been sticky and like lots of organisations, people have got out of the habit of enjoying themselves. If you are ever passing on Wednesday , Friday or Saturday nights, you're more than welcome to come in. We are having a 60th anniversary rally in September so we've spruced up a lot for that.

We've passed the boat club a fair few times & haven't seen much sign of life either ! We do however, play spot the boat names we've come to recognise over the years(18 since we first ventured up there).😁

Hope that invitation isn't exclusive to dogless !! Happy Diamond Jubilee - hope you all have a great time. I've met a few members of the Club over the years who have all been pleasant and welcoming, usually mentioning a safe mooring and the clubhouse! I always slow past the boats (in fact, that's how I got spotted by Mr Stabby last summer!) but never thought of stopping.

We are assured by C&RT that Atherstone and Hillmorton locks WILL NOT CLOSE on 12 August but the timed restrictions will be imposed from that date. Apologies have been given for the misleading stoppage alerts and assurances given that they will be republished in a corrected form. Telemachus was right I'm very pleased to say. Rog
