That's interesting because one of the things which put me off it was the length. I had not considered that it may have been lengthened. I really like the boat. I guess i'm a closet Dutch barge fan pretending to prefer English barges by looking at boats like LAKE Myself I've always liked Dutch barges because of their nice underwater shape, and I love to see the way most of them glide through the water.
But if I would have had the opportunity to buy a barge like LAKE, I wouldn't have hestitate much longer than half a minute, if I'd had that opportunity 20 years ago, now it would be way too much work for me, work that I would still love to do, if only I was still in good enough shape.

I've seen a lot of barges in and out of the water and Dutch barges specially the luxies and catswhiskers are truly beautiful to behold but nothing I have ever seen is more appealing to me than the one at Laleham which is basically the same as LAKE but with a different cabin and a wheelhouse.
They are something else. Not sure I could do it justice though so probably best left to someone else. Lovely boats.

I always thought I was going to end up with a Dutch barge, before I bought a L&L shortboat. I'm the same as you though Peter if I had the chance to buy lake it would take me 30secs to decide.

I hope you're still going to see them on monday, and do as you said, go really close and take pictures on monday morning. While wearing your "look I have lots of money" Gucci pyjamas and ask if they want to sell the boat for cash, don't forget to tell them that your a "con" as that's probably the sort of person they would love to sell to.

Actually I might wear my CAMBRIDGE university rowing club Lycra top I bought for £5 in a charity shop in Walton on Thames.
That usually confuses people and makes them think I am in fact a con. Anyway yes I will creep up closer this time just because I want to see the boat again and fall in love with it

This is only a warning, I've read a few books that were talking about this subject, it can avoid harm to be very careful, and don't ever keep your eyes of her when she has a knife in her hands .

This is the best modern barge I have ever come across I love the stern - very unusual on a modern boat. Along the lines of a Spits. English built boat I believe. great bollards in the right place. Etc. Only thing is I reckon visibility from the helm is terrible !! Design flaw. the coaming around the front needs reshaping / cutting down. The interior is very twee but the boat itself is great. Gardner 6LX, northern lights Genny, diesel driven girlie button. 20mx4m. Nice. 175k. Was for sale recently for £150k. I think the visibility issue is a problem. Sortable though.

It certainly is a very special barge as it's listed as 20m dutch darge.html
The stern looks very much like the stern of my barge that I made into a day-trip restaurant barge that you could see on the video's that I posted recently.
They are called overhere (In France) "Cul the Poule" Chicken arse, as that's what they look like.
David Suchet had (or has) a very nicely shaped Belgian build barge named "Leonie" with a quite similar stern shape too.

Dutch barge ONX, a 21 x 3.7m Katwijker, soon to be for sale.
Nice boat very well thought out and designed for boating on. Quite an unusual way of doing the decks - narrow side decks but high quality well designed roof access arrangements so side decks are not needed. I like the thinking behind it and it also means more internal space in general. It really looks wider than 3.7m..

ONX belongs (or belonged) to Adrian Stott, someone that is/was a head figure of the DBA, I visited his barge during the IWA Festival at Waltham Abbey in '89, as far as I remember it was rather nicely fitted out.

He's got a piano in there and a cast iron bath. Very gentrified he is clearly a gentleman with good taste. Boat being sold as he has a Stijlsteven being sorted out in Holland to replace it. Nice boat I specially liked the way the cabin is planned including using the roof for access around the boat rather than side decks. Well thought out indeed.

That's what I did with the conversion of my small tankerbarge too

It is an interesting option but I really like wide side decks. Mainly because the roof is populated by all sorts of other things on my boats but also for aesthetic reasons.

Of course I have always had boats which already had cabins and did not allow much customising. If I was having a boat built I would be very tempted to copy ONX as it did look like a pretty satisfactory arrangement. One disadvantage though is nothing to hold onto when walking along the roof.
Hmm. Swings and roundabouts really.
