I sent a message to the Johanna people and had a message back from Jan he said could I somehow find out the name. So I will have to revisit the boat. I realise that these beautiful boats may have a similar following to classic English boats so I'm pleased to help with that its right up my street a bit of boat archaeology And I will check for the gold yes. One of the nearby moorings according to a sign has "traps and acid traps" plus another one is "booby trapped 4 days a week" but this wreck is on its own and now I have jan's name I can quote him if anyone asks what I am doing .. Good job young man, it's nice if you can do something useful while enjoying what you're doing. I will be more than surprised if it works out to be the "Johanna" anyway, but it could open a fresh research for another lost boat. Good luck with finding out more. If there's more gold ballast than you can carry, please send me an MP and I will come to help . Peter.

It says on the photo that Goliath doesn't deal with this boat anymore. A boat made of Oak will only have a chance of surviving in salt water, but I agree, it's a nice looking boat. Oarlocks are always useful, and even much bigger boats can be moved with a pair of these, look at the www.thamesbargedriving.co.uk/events.htmlPeter.

Yes regents canal barges also had oarlocks. I have had one out with the magnet. I have also found two Thames lighter oarlocks on the foreshore both of which I left behind as rather heavy and both of which were taken by someone else Nice items. Had another look at the botter no name on it I had a chat with a couple of the blokes at the little harbour they know the owner so a name may be forthcoming at some point. I've left my phone number.

I actually left my phone number with a view to getting a mooring there. Under £200 a year for a 20 footer. Not sure if they have space. Its a little shanty town type creek I really like the look of it. I could buy that 14ft round the world yacht and keep it there between trips round the world.

Scrap? 29k to start the ball rolling on an engineless gutted near 80 year old boat that has had some steelwork (all be it reasonable quality if Buckles have done it) does seem very optimistic. It won't cruise far up the Nene, air draft will see to that. It's a pleasing shape though.

I'd be amazed if she is 7' air draft and 3' draft, she has always looked a big old girl and Dwarfs us (6' 8" air draft with screen up)

A lovely boat. Nice engines in there a pair of beta 35s. Only problem I can see is that quite a lot of people object to burning painted wood in t'stove !
