Yes. Also if the machinery has been removed I wonder if the centre of gravity is higher than designed. It could be a bit wobbly !

Here's a good tip, and free of charge : "Simply leave the boat where it is, and don't buy, as I'm sure that you would buy misery". It would be a huge project taking ages, and bucket loads of money before you can have some fun with it, while there are plenty of boat for sale ready to enjoy straight away. Peter.

This barge is definitely unusual. Very nicely built for a modern vessel however I suspect forward visibility may be awkward. Looks like a large blind spot… I passed it on the thames a few years ago it looked like the skipper had quite a bad view. Its lots of strips welded together. This seems interesting. That may account for it its just the eBay on my phone says its in London. I guess the seller is located in London. It's a pretty bad ad anyway, they talk about a video on which you can see the donor boat that has (had ?) the GM engine, but there's no link to that video. Also there's a great lack of info about the boat in the ad. But that's not the reason I'm not buying that boat . Peter. We did cover this one awhile back - no one could work out where it is. I briefly considered it - emailed the seller, he wouldn't say where it was or when/if viewing was possible! I don't think its genuine. Very pricey considering "Bonchurch" TID has been up for £18,000 and even Premier have a cheaper tug ready converted.....................

There were plenty of Luxemotors with fairly high bows, so before you start taking it all down, go for a cruise on this barge and see what it's like to see, and how bad the visibility is for real, there's a chance that you'll be surprised. Overhere the law is that you have to be able to see the water 150meters in front of the bows, but most barges with "bad" visibility have one (or more) camera's to help with the visibility. As you say it looks all good stuff, a nice Gardner, and the Perkins bowthruster with it's seperate engine. The strips allow for an easier following of more difficult hull shapes, there used to be a barge here that was built at Evesham, by Heritage boatbuilders in the 80's named "Occitane", a 60' barge that I almost bought, but the buyer of my barge didn't manage to get the loan he needed. "Occitane" use to belong to an hireboat fleet on the Midi, where everybody was scared to see it coming their way, as the hirers were much too dangerous with this (relatively) heavy barge that has (had ?) 2 -1.5 BMC's Peter.

Peter the stern is a virtually perfect copy of a Spits. Not sure if a photo is available but it is remarkable. Unfortunately this photo doesn't show it. When I saw it on the Thames I was very impressed. Most modern barges look too boxy (including mine) but this one has something special about it.

This was the best photo I could find, and although you can see some more of her stern, it's still not much. I will try to find photo's of the latest Dutch "Steilsteven" barges, as their stern looks more like this DB's stern. Peter.

It's clear that we have different opinions about high quality, as when I looked at these bow bollards, I thought what a pitty that there's no space in between them to be able to properly work your ropes, and als for quality work they should have been boxes in, to avoid shit and rust possibilities underneath them. You should have a look at how bollard are used on a spits stopping off on them in the Freycinet canal locks, I'm sure that that would quickly change your mind about this "quality" work. For the rest, I think that it's a very pretty barge that I would have loved to own, and surely would be very happy with, but if I would have that chance (never !) I would change these quality bow bollards to a more practical set up, like I did on my boat where the bollard used to be on the deck, which made me having to get on my knees to do the ropes, because of my bad back, so that was the very first thing I did when I arrived back from Berlin where I bought the boat Something that I can't understand of the tittle of this boat is that they say it's based on a Belgian spits, but call it a Dutch Barge. It's a reduced Belgian Spits, or a Dutch Barge, but it can't be both. You'll never see a Belgian spits with such a high bow, as they would never fit under any of the Freycinet canal bridges, and you'll never see a Belgian Spits with so much sheer, looks rather nice, but doesn't belong to the chatacteristics of a Belgian Spits at all. As I wrote yesterday about the latest "Steilstevens" that were built as motorbarges from the start, and not converted to motor sailing barges, they had some nice sterns and very nice sheer too, and high bows if they had to cross some wild open water regulary. I bow to your superior knowledge as always. I just think the bollards are better than most English barges. Of course I have never handled a barge with dual bollards so I wouldn't know about spacing. All my boating requiring use of bollards is on the Thames where I always control the ropes from the lockside due to being single handed and the bye law requirement to secure bow and stern lines. Note secure not slip round a bollard. I usually tie one end off and slip the other end line around the lock side bollard. Obviously the lines have to be adjusted.
Totally different on the continent as I understand it.
I suppose my technique may be a bit odd but I've always done it like that with all my boats including narrow boats and my barge. I prefer to be on the lock side.
