Joyeux noel You're a kind man David, and I appreciate your offer. I'm having a headache now trying to make the choice of where to go Rouen or the Caribbean ? Rouen looks very exciting and a great place to spend the winter (in a well heated hotel ). Forget about Noël now, and make it "Bonne Année", which is what I wish the 3 of you. Peter.

This modern barge seems to have a LOT of toys on it !!! Never seen so many toys on a boat. m.apolloduck.com/boat/barges-coastal-barge/591547I've seen the boat its a bit of a strange one. Toys galore Leyland main engine, electric drive option, diesel bow thruster, lister CS genset, &c Wheelhouse interior probably gives a general clue as to the design of the vessel Belt n braces come to mind

It's maby not the prettiest barge, but it's well build and has everything one needs to live comfortably. I'm a bit surprised to see that the boat is for sale already as she was sold and swapped for a wide beam Collingwood built boat in april 2017. The new owner had an expensive mooring in N-London, no idea why they're selling already. Peter.

I saw it quite recently near Uxbridge. It was on a non towpath mooring for a while.
In the advert it says DB marine built it. They are a recognised barge builder in Selby. There is also a DB marine by Cookham bridge on the Thames but they do not produce steel boats.
Eta a 15mm base is interesting but rather more interesting would be the thickness of the chine plate and even more interesting the side plates. Both of my steel boats have 15mm base but the chines are 8mm and the hull sides just 6mm.
Bullet proof if the person with the gun is under the boat.

I found something about them on the DBA site, so now I'm sure that I remembered the name right
Ribble Link 22 Feb 2013 12:49 #46488 David & Christine Booth David & Christine Booth's Avatar Offline Posts: 28 First time post - and a bit late in joining this thread, sorry. We took our barge up to Glasson from Preston via the sea before the Ribble Link was built. We have visited Liverpool x3, and N Wales (as well as Ravenglass, Whitehaven, Kirkudbright in the other direction) sailing out of Glasson where we sort of took root on a mooring for about 10yrs. We also had a river mooring which we offered to Tim Spall on his trip, but he opted for the marina.
Anyway, at 57' by 13'4" we knew we would not fit through the Ribble Link, but by coming into the system at Tarleton, we had a brill time in Liverpool using the new system through the waterfront. All those beautiful buildings, and you end up just a short walk from all visitor attractions/shops/train station at Lime St. The accompanied bit through the outskirts of Liverpool did not work for us though, as we could not keep up. If we went faster, we just churned up more rubbish, and David got tired of going into the weed hatch. BW staff helped with locks and bridges.... in fact we had to wait to go towards Liverpool in convoy, as they lock the bridge at the start of the accompanied stretch(?name, sorry, the log is on the boat and I'm at home). And coming back, we had to moor by the Tesco and BW office at Litherland, as we were too slow to reach the bridge before they locked it.
We really didn't want to leave Liverpool. Highly recommended. If there was a downside it was only that parking for our visitors was very expensive. Hope you enjoy it Charles Chris Booth (Toggenberg)
Peter.

However its nothing like as good looking as the db Elisabeth There's quite a huge difference in the price, for that difference if I was looking for a barge I would much rather have the "Toggenberg", also because with the "DB Elisabeth" everybody will see straight away that you're a wealthy bugger, and they (the nasties) won't hesitate one minute to steal everything they can, just because if you own a boat like that, you'll be rich enough to pay for the replacement of the stolen stuff, and/or be wealthy enough to pay for an insurance that will pay for that. On top of that with the "DB Elisabeth"you can't even see where you're going . Peter.

Probably best to put the gold in a vault somewhere rather than use it for ballast I guess.

That's an idea. I had been thinking about buying a small french village. Probably a better investment to chuck it in the cut though !
