Well there is that I suppose. I prefer to recess the glass bit in personally which is what I have done with the 5 below side deck portholes on my barge. And would do with any other barge I owned. A window in that particular location is a bit vulnerable but being a fairly light cruiser you would be able to protect it and be careful. It was common practice for gentleman's motor cruisers to have portholes or small windows in the hull sides. Standard design really. My little colvic has them. Given proper rendering in locks and on moorings its not a problem. Mind you the dutch steel thing is not very gentlemanly to be fair ! Example gentleman's motor cruiser. More or less all gentleman's boats have this feature. It is in fact in very good taste. And a nice van lent. a lot of boat for a million pounds.

Yes looks interesting. I wonder if peter bargemast can give any information about the builder "jachtbouw, tenbroek, Aalsmeer". Being out of the water helps for inspection purposes. Derv diesel heater is a bit of an odd way of putting it as they usually run OK on red as well. The window in the hull side is a little unusual for this sort of boat. Quite a nice feature I think. I can't give you any info about this (former) builder, found their old website, which is only in Dutch. www.tenbroekwatersport.nl/By what it says, they're offering to do all kinds of jobs on boats, and have moorings in the water and hard-standing, but not a word about boat building anymore, so that must have been somthing they've done in the past. It's a name that I'd never heard of, and they surely didn't belong to the well known Dutch builders, which doesn't have to mean that their products were no good. Peter.

This is rather pleasant. Looks to me like an old thames tosher tug. 48x9ft6. Asking ten grand on Alan pease m.apolloduck.com/boat/commercial-vessels-work-boat/465800Suitably un-butchered which always helps The diagonal guard irons at the front are interesting and quite unusual. It has a BIG Leyland 6 in it. 250hp ? That seems improbable but possible I guess. Likely to be a replacement engine I suspect considering the removable cabin top. Boat is called BJ. Have we had this before on here ? It rings a bell for some reason.

Another lightship. Looks to have a Gardner 4LW as secondary generator. I wonder what the primary one is just out of sight to left of picture? Or maybe it has two the same. m.apolloduck.com/boat/commercial-vessels-floating-hotel/557315Another Gardner I reckon. kris is the Gardner man The things in the background almost look like they could be Gardner 1L2 units ? Not very good resolution. 4 Gardners in one room? That would be quite serious.

I just wouldn't want the rest of the ship. I don't have a Gardner at the moment so I am looking for one. I think a 4lw is the most likely one for me.

If you're not going to tow with the boat, it would be good to replace the engine for a smaller one, that will give more useful space too. I was just thinking about a nice small engine that may become available as one of our rarely posting members is planning a trip on the Thames, and is slightly worried that the 10 HP engine he has isn't powerful enough. That is if the engine still has some life left in it, as it has been badly treated for a while with over-frequent oil changes . Peter.

Big old kempenaar "Vriendschap" for sale for £20k. Engine not working as I understand it. Was Located in Barking creek intention was to convert to a community boat but mooring was not legal. I think the nearby (creekside) scrap man has been watching it. Seems to have been moved to royal docks (no mooring so needs moving again). Big old boat it is . 50 metres. Quite large for England inland. m.apolloduck.com/boat/barges-kempenaar/593770One for peter bargemast knowledge I think Nice little project for someone ? Or scrap.

Yes I saw that, think you would need to have a mooring lined up. The best thing on it is the solar setup and they want to sell this separately. I think they will be lucky to get £20,000.

I think its scrap.
I wonder if Peter would be able to comment on the claim it is pre 1900. This could potentially mean a very interesting engine room, if it is original, with some extra scrap in it.

That would have been interesting to see. I guess the PLA decided it was a hazard and got the job done. To be fair if it had come adrift and ended up in the thanes fairway during the hours of darkness it could have been a very serious hazard indeed.
