Yes. bargemast complained about this but then he found it was not very arduous and was happy he had done it. I'm not registered as such but seem to be able to sign in with my Google mail account. I never look at that email address so any spam is not an issue. There is also a facebook login option but I don't <deleted>………it is the porn of the devil.

. There is also a facebook login option but I don't <deleted>………it is the porn of the devil. I agree .... but I found I needed to join to see stuff on the "Barges small river Tugs and Workboats on Humber" a closed group which is a goldmine of information, pictures etc of boats and boaters past and present. .... the rest is a pile of poo and I don't have "friends"

In the ad it says : " pontoon location ely" I don't think that it can stay there, as it also says :" all you'll have to do is either moor the pontoon off grid or find a mooring for 240v hook up" What his 4HP wind turbine is I don't know. It does sound a bit too easy, with everything for free. Peter. Yea the wind thing looks rather interesting. It appears to include a nice little nesting box to attract birds. I guess there must be instructions in there in bird language to not fly into the blades when it is windy. Quite unusual to see model cormorants as well. Usually its herons or ducks you tend to see. at the end of the day it is a floating shed which by definition is a Good Thing but I feel there are some issues around the design and construction of the unit. Way late to this - this is attempt number 2, moored to the sunken wreckage of attempt number 1 just downstream of the railway bridge near Willow Walk in Ely, he has been there a good 18 months. www.itv.com/news/anglia/story/2017-07-12/campaigners-rally-round-elys-willow-man/

The only thing that's Dutch on this boat Is the Victron Atlas-Combi. The reason for calling it a Dutch barge is because that's the kind of barge many people are looking for, it's a sort of "Clickbait" thing I think. Peter.

Yes it's click bait Peter, but isn't the Term "Dutch Barge" protected under eu legislation? The same as you can't call just any sparkling wine champagne.

As there are so many different "Dutch Barges", I don't think that that sort of name protetion would be possible, it's not a registred trade mark either. Peter.

The term "Dutch barge" is so well known its almost generic. I've been asked about my barge "Is it a Dutch barge" I had to answer "no its an English barge". This answer always causes surprise. The only other person I have come across using the term "English barge" was tb member @loddon when he owned Parglena which is a modern reduced size copy of a duker barge I believe. Made in England.

I was kind of joking, but I think this owner is stretching it a bit to call it a Dutch barge.

maybe its just a typo and they meant to write "ditch barge".
I suppose with the wheelhouse and wheel it is sort of bargèsque. Not sure what the front end of the vessel is all about but its a (vaguely) free country so I guess it can be allowed.

This is the front of the "Dutch barge" I find it incredibly scary. Definitely not a boat for rough water like the Thames tideway. It might be capable of missing bridges but I'm sure with that low buoyancy bows it is going to dive quite badly. I would guess its one of those boats where the boat builder was in need of some work and allowed the customer to take the lead on boat design. On the plus side I reckon you should be able to wedge open lock gates from above the lock once its full assuming the lock has two gates. Stem bar in the centre between the gates give it some oil and the gates would probably open.

It could be used as an ice-breaker with it's pointy bow, and if that doesn't do the job well enough, they can "ditch" the thing. Peter.
