I don't have front escape and have BSC. Apparently there's a side hatch up the front end somewhere. I see comments have been shut down on the NB for sale site!

They may have spend £15K but I bet overall it's worth less than when they started. Buggered about with to be unappealing, no interior, no engine, no nothing. Idiots.

I love the description of the engine even more than the picture. The reason why the spreader (referred to in the ad as an 'arm') is hanging off is because the mast is rotten. That boat is a full-time job for at least a year for a very determined multi-skilled person with a big pile of cash but only at about half the ask (at most). Why bother when there is plenty of stuff good to go for that price? And only £170 / month on the hard! Welcome to hell.

I hadn't noticed the price of the hard .... but to be honest if it was me buying it, it would be on a trailer and gone anyway .... But £170 per month would be more than I would pay for a serviced mooring.
(I only pay half that for Sabina H's mooring !! and my 25 footer ashore in Essex is slightly less than that for 6 months)

Why bother when there is plenty of stuff good to go for that price? And only £170 / month on the hard! Welcome to hell. Definitely a boat to run a mile from, . . but hardly for the reasons given above ! The photo of the dismantled engine shows what looks to be a factory marinised heat exchanger cooled unit, and God alone knows what sort of way out reasoning could ever lead to one of those being regarded as a less than ideal main engine for such a vessel. The detached spreader is far from a reliable indicator that the wooden mast - probably Columbian Pine - is "rotten''. On the other hand, the rust stains i.w.o. the spreader to mast fastenings are a good indication that mild steel fastenings have failed due to corrosion, . . . and something of a pointer to the standards to which the very obviously amateur fit-out was originally done. The weather deck, or more precisely the condition of the steelwork hidden beneath the wooden laid deck planking, is what should be ringing the alarm bells. Any ideas as to why, . . or about the effect that the appallingly clumsy lines of the underwater run aft, and the barn door of a squared-off trailing edge of the deadwood the propeller is working behind, will have on the boats performance ?

It's priceless that at this point in that boat's history you consider the profile of the rudder to be an issue worth mentioning. I am confident that your experienced eye has correctly identified the pedigree of the pile of old junk left in the engine hole but the rusty screw theory is a bit dodgy. Here's a close-up for your delectations.

It looks like the sort of boat one should keep a social distance away from.
Definitely a Columbian spruce mast there yes.
