It's priceless that at this point in that boat's history you consider the profile of the rudder to be an issue worth mentioning. I am confident that your experienced eye has correctly identified the pedigree of the pile of old junk left in the engine hole but the rusty screw theory is a bit dodgy. Here's a close-up for your delectations. If what you've put in the above response was directed at me, would you be kind enough to point out just exactly where I made any reference to the rudder ? After you've done that, perhaps you will also be good enough to enlighten anyone reading this with your explanation for the discolouration (blackening) evident under the bent starboard side combined spreader saddle/shroud tang, . . and, also evident i.w.o the port side fitting !

It's too pretty a fit out. Great short break boat. but I couldn't live in something as perfect as that ..... bloody hell if you left a book open on the table it would spoil the look.
Nah !!! fine for posers and shiny boaters but not for me.

Nah !!! fine for posers and shiny boaters but not for me. I admit that you'd probably be flitting about with a duster all the time. But if it were mine you could say what you like and all would be well. Apparently the name refers to a former merchant navy training ship. ETA Shiny boaters? I though the downbeat appearance outside was one of its good points.

Farty Boy. Hmmm...doesn't sound so good. I reckon anyone who buys the boat will need to change the name because its so personal. There are quite a few Vindi boys out there, it seems, and you could be accused of being an imposter. I'd change it to Vindicatrix - the name of the original ship the boat's name refers to. www.gloucesterdocks.me.uk/sharpness/vindicatrix.htm

I'm not a great fan of "quirky?" names for boats ..... out there some of the names are positively cringeworthy (I always imagine a boat trying to sink because of embarrassment) My "Shapfell" was called "PeeDeePee" when I bought it but a bit of research discovered it's original name which I returned to it. "Sabina H" has been called that since her launch. Although I must confess a sneaking regard for "The Dogs" ....... Port of Registry "Bow Locks"

The naming of a boat can be a tricky thing. As you say, some of them are just beyond the pale - for instance IMO anything that references 'The Lord of the Rings'...pass the bucket... Its a pity that there are only so many stars in the sky, for instance - they're all already taken. Jokey names - its all well and good I suppose - 'Passing Wind' seems to be something of a hardy perennial. Names that have no obvious significance seem to work best. But as Trina has demonstrated, 'rhymes with' needs a little consideration too...

The boats I have named have either french names or battleship names.
Battleships and locomotives are quite good I find.
