Public service by text message and you have to acknowledge it before using the device afterwards? What a joke. Its basically just a way for someone to gather information about how responsive people are on their phones and how much they are using them. Load of bollocks turn off phone or put it on shite mode for the day. One wonders if this will include pushing messages through via IM services like whatscrap etc. Emails? Maybe it is good but it looks too much like state interference. Yeah, the sheer level of messages announcing the end of the world has become rather intrusive of late. Sad to see the demise of the sandwich board, a zealot and a megaphone..

There used to be a guy with said board and loudhailer often seen at Oxford Circus. His strapline was "Are you a sinner or a winner"? All sinners were advised to proceed directly to hell via purgatory. Winners were a little better off if no problems were reported on the Circle line.

Those were the days - when nutters were obvious and honest. Yes now they just hide on the Internet.

Thanks for that. I went to settings on my android phone and searched for emergency and yes it let me turn them off. Good to know. It will be interesting to see if this stops it happening. It was the high volume "even if phone is on silent" which bothered me as I generally keep phone on silent as don't like the noises it makes. Sadly I can't find that so will just throw my phone into the cut on 22nd April and beg the fishes' forgiveness.

I feel the smugness isn't related to what model phone you may have.

This bloke was very famous when I was growing up in London in the 1970s. Here he has a placard but sometimes he had a sandwich board which read "Less meat for less passion". I said to him once "But I want more passion" and he growled at me. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Green

I like the name Stanley. It seems a good one. One of my grandparents was called Stanley. Lived to the ripe old age of 89. He was a good lad. His dad was also called Stanley. One's great grandfather en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_UdaleBloody woolly liberals !

But my mother told me not to mock the afflicted. Besides I probably had something better to do.

I think the 7p booklet for free will have been very educational.
He was probably right about cutting out animal products from the diet to be fair as this is causing significant issues.

Just read the wiki page on that guy. Personally I blame the Christians for making so many people uptight about sex. The guy who started the Heaven's Gate thing, Marshall Applewhite, is often thought to have been a repressed homosexual from a typically conservative background who eventually went so far as to castrate himself as well as convincing several followers to do the same. As I expect you know, things didn't end well.

Most cults in some way control sex, and it's mostly about not doing it with anyone except the leader. Koresh was positively commonplace. Applewhite was different.
