So I just filled in the survey. It’s obvious who crt are planing to bash. Widebeams as usual and continuous cruisers. What a surprise, full steam ahead with their plan to gentrify the waterways.

Will it make much difference?
Its not going to be all that much. Maybe £20 a week more or something. I think people will pay.
Interesting to see what actually happens.

It will make a big difference to me if they charge by area for widebeams. This year the “surcharge,” goes up to 20%. If they do what they propose it will be an 80% increase for me. On £1500 that’s a lot of money, especially as I can’t navigate the whole network. If they then reduce it by the percentage of the network I can’t navigate it will be fair. I think if they try to introduce it, I will take it to a judicial revue. It’s about time this shower appeared in court on someone else’s terms. To answer for their actions. Just for clarity my licence is already going up 18% this year, before any of this new nonsense happens.

Could you perhaps cut their hearts out and eat them?
This might wake people up.
Interesting theory that there may potentially be a group challenge.
One to watch.
When I finally get away from the CRT water I won't have to pay £1000 a year council tax which will be helpful.
People who manage to live on very small boats seem quite sensible. Mrs Tabby being a good example. No flies on that one.

Yes we know your alright, but what about everybody else or the survival of the waterways generally?

It looks to me, as a casual non informed observer, that more money may be needed to help fend off rapid deterioration of canals. Given that boaters arrr actually the only group who need everything to work properly it does make some sense to get money off them.
Anyway I've done my bit. £150k spent on licences and moorings in my 29 yars on canals. Time for this to come to an end.
£5k a yar every yar on average is far too much to be spending just to have a boat in a ditch. Was nice when I was continuously cruising though to be fair.
I think costs will go up but not sure how badly the CRT will clobber people. Maybe not as serious as some are expecting.

It’s amazing how many supposedly intelligent people fall for crts propaganda. On first reading your statement seems to be obvious enough. Except when you take into consideration that the rapid decline of the waterways is the direct result of crts policies. The removal of preventative maintenance has been proven in numerous studies, to be at best a short term saving. But results in more major failures of the infrastructure resulting in longer closures and larger costs in the long term. Especially when the majority of the network is 200 plus years old. Any organisation with over a billion pounds of assets and a budget of over 200 million isn’t poor. Maybe they should be looking at cutting costs, maybe removal of some of the management? This is normal business practice, so if they want to be considered a business. This is the first thing creditors would be looking for, not massively increasing the costs to your customers. Crt are trying to have their cake and eat it. We want to charge people lots of money to live on boats on “our,” water, but we don’t want responsibility for those people that live on the water. The more I think about it the more I think bringing this shower infront of a court and increased public scrutiny is the way forward. For clarity I would have no problem paying more money if I thought this money would go towards maintenance of the network. Not growing crts private property empire.

I know this.
I was basing my comments on the reality of the situation. I don't think the CRT is going to change much.
Its easy to say they should change but in reality is this likely?
Interesting to see if any user groups go for a review of some sort.
I think they might not..

Interesting to see if any user groups go for a review of some sort. I think they might not.. I think this is your underlying pessimism. Why can’t crt change? They have changed and continue to change, morphing into a property development company rather than a navigation authority. The problem is there is no oversight, they don’t really have to answer to anyone for their actions. So what is needed is clarity and understanding of that direction. In the end of the day everybody is answerable to the law for the consequences of their actions. If presented in the right way, the fact that they are trying to usurp legislation with contract law. Would result in legal action against them. Let’s face it last year, they got away with submitting falsefied accounts to defra. I wonder what would happen if I falsified my accounts.

who’s going to buy and look after the larger ex working boats when it gets so exspensive? The result will be less of our boating heritage surviving. This is supposedly from an organisation that is supposed to be looking after that heritage.

Nigel Moore beat them twice I think.

NBTA seem organised. I wonder if they want to do anything.
I know they have "slammed" the plans (whatever that means) but are they planning any action?
