The winding hole is now blocked off with a boat and a sign indicates the land is private, no mooring, landing or winding. How can a private landowner stop you using C&RT waters ? Anyone know details on this please ? Rog Why have you gone so quiet, Alice ? Have you discovered that there's one of C&RT(Ltd)'s pseudo legalistic nonsense End of Garden Mooring Agreements in place in respect of the length of outside bank that forms what is/was the wharf ? Have you discovered that C&RT(Ltd)'s pseudo legalistic nonsense End of Garden Mooring Agreements are founded in a load of utter tripe through which C&RT(Ltd) in effect falsely claim that its EoG Mooring Agreement gives the party to the agreement the right to the sole and exclusive use of the so-called 'waterspace' specified in the agreement ? Are you able to understand the above two simple questions, . . or, more importantly, . . are you able to understand the significance of either one or the other of the only two possible answers to the above two simple questions ?

Just had a reply from C&RT The winding hole is NOT owned by the trust, but by the owner of the house, who has decided to prevent its use which is of course his right. Discussions are ongoing and it is hoped its use may be permitted in the future. Thanks to brummieboy too ... I wasn't aware of the anomalies of the Shroppie Rog

Can't help but be impressed by the hands that cut out Tyrley lock flight Rog It was done by Paddy One Arm, a dyslexic, using dymanite.

I wonder if they had tree fellers on site initially or just two.

Now there's a chain across. The owner also shouts at boaters using the lock after 5. The name of his boat is True Grit.... The previous owner was a helpful man who also had a boat but kept it moored so that boaters could turn there. Such a shame that this person is so abrasive. It's his 2nd 'home' so thankfully he's not there all the time.

Sounds a nuisance.
Why buy a property by a canal then moan about boats? It is common though.
A really mad one was someone who bought a flat by Limehouse marina and moaned to the management that there was a Thames sailing barge outside their window! The mast was apparently sticking up.
Mad

We came up Tyrley on Thurs & the evil bywashes have aged me even more yet again(cork needed pfffffft). Got to the top & this prick has signs, rope & a boat in place to stop you winding(though I do think you could wind behind his boat & give it a few 'nudges'especially if he was around). You really have to wonder... Does he hate everyone ? Does he want C&RT to pay for the use of his wharf windy hole ? Is he just a nasty prick ? Does he have a very small prick & needs to do something to make him feel big Answers on a postcard.😆

Does he want C&RT to pay for the use of his wharf windy hole ? The answer is almost certainly a well justified - 'yes'. Ever heard of C&RT(Ltd)'s End of Garden Mooring [EoG] charges ?

A really mad one was someone who bought a flat by Limehouse marina and moaned to the management that there was a Thames sailing barge outside their window! The mast was apparently sticking up. Mad When transiting Isis lock early one morning a lady who had recently bought a canal boat on the 'arm' (the stub of what used to lead to Oxford canal basin, which is now a car park) came out and shouted at me that "this is a residential area!" in her best Anne Widdecombe voice. I replied that that it is "the canal" whereupon she descended into unintelligible apoplexy. I sometimes wonder if she continued to live there for long. I was a bit on the fence concerning the lady who had bought a lock cottage on the Oxford when there was not much traffic, but when in later years it became quite busy, she seemed to spend a fair bit of time asking people to turn off their engines when waiting for the lock etc. It seemed a bit like the situation in later years where some roads became busy following the popularity of sat-nav.
