Personally I think crt removing facilities will lead to people burning their rubbish and poo. Or dumping it in the hedge.

I just don’t think it’s getting talked about. Boaters should be contacting their mps about the removal of facilities. Not doing crts job for them and begging for more money.

It’s looking like crt are planing to remove all the facilities other than the ones near their on line moorings.

I will just mention that having traversed the Nene, an EA waterway which takes about 3 days if you don’t dawdle, there are basically no rubbish facilities other than at each end (Northampton and Peterborough) and I don’t recall seeing any elsan facilities either. Presumably you have to use marina facilities (and pay for them). There are numerous signs at locks etc that say “No littering, take your litter home”. Which is tricky if you live aboard or are out for months. Much the same on the Middle Level - just a facilities block in March with one very small dustbin. And there are no mooring with a duration greater than 48hrs. So we may moan about CRT but live aboards on CRT waterways have it much much easier than ditto on EA or ML waters. Which is probably why you don’t see live aboard continuous cruisers on the Nene or Middle Level.

I think* on the Nene and Ouse overboard discharge of lavatories is allowed so almost all regular boats will have simple sea toilet setups.
*sounds odd and worth checking.

We've spent a few days moored in a town to do shops and laundry ... no facilities but we take a carrier bag of rubbish into the town bins whenever we go out ... keeps on top of things.
However water and elsan services HAVE to be secured ... not about liveaboards it's about anybody on a boat.
I don't believe they can significantly reduce provision of such services whilst increasing licensing costs, but we shall see.

To be fair not everybody uses Elsan. It must be a large number but a heck of a lot of boats do have pump out setups and occasionally one gets instant freeze mortar setups or really good little fires that will burn anything.
Then there is compost.
I've always been mildly intrigued about what the CRT obligations are with regard to avoiding shit in the bushes and the cut.
Maybe they are not obliged to help prevent this outcome.

A lot of liveaboard boaters that I know have pump out, and like to use elsans for self pumpout or for 'decanting' containers self pumped out elsewhere.
It's not just cassette users.

I was told many, many years ago that contravenes the BW rules because it impacts on local ratepayers. There is a local "recycling centre" just a few minutes walk from the canal there who will happily take a proper bin bag from you without recourse to providing your postcode.

Public rubbish bins are provided for public rubbish ... that's what I use them for.

I'll never forget a reported incident that apparently occurred in London...a lighter / barge was left on the offside which passing boats began to chuck their rubbish into...it filled up...then someone complained to CRT that they need to empty their 'rubbish barge'*...chuckle.
*maybe that should be 'garbage scow'.
