I’m interested to see if people agree with the closure of the facilities?

I voted no, can’t see how anyone can choose to vote otherwise. I would add that I don’t think the license fee is enough to pay for all the facilities I’d like. I pay around 3x the amount in council tax for less facilities than CRT supply for boaters.

As ianali says, who do you expect to vote yes? However I'd be happier to see showers closed if it meant elsan, rubbish and water points remain open. Rog

For those who may not have seen this: Notice Alert Trent & Mersey Canal Location: Harecastle Tunnel CSF Starts At: Harecastle Tunnel Ends At: Harecastle Tunnel Saturday 23 December 2023 15:00 until further notice Type: Advice Reason: Repair Update on 09/02/2024: For public safety we will be getting the shower drained down and isolated as it is not cost effective to repair. This shower will remain closed whilst we complete our Customer Service Facilities review. Original message: The shower facility at Harecastle Tunnel, North portal, is out of use due to an electrical fault. Our contractors are aware but due to the Christmas and New Year period there may be a delay in attending. The remaining facilities will remain accessible to customers when the tunnel is staffed during normal operating hours You can view this notice and its map online here: canalrivertrust.org.uk/notice/27074/harecastle-tunnel-csf

I've never used a CRT shower, I imagine the overwhelming majority of boats have an onboard shower and any which don't are generally used as day boats by people who have a bath or shower at home.

Both of my Boats have perfectly good showers and on demand hot water. It doesn't mean I have to use them but they are available.
One must be cautious around all this as last time I regularly had showers a woman turned up and all hell broke loose.
So yeah. I'm looking to avoid showers as much as possible going forwards.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here ever used the shower at Harecastle ?
We haven't ... to be honest I didn't know there was one.
We have used the shower at Fradley junction a lot of years ago.
To be honest over the past fifteen years the canals have got much busier, so we never even think of using shower blocks anymore. They were handy after we'd been for a morning run but had not yet cruised when we first moved aboard, but we didn't like following others in or queueing so we stayed on board and showered after cruising.

Let me remind the people who are happy for the showers to be removed. Crt are not just closing showers they are closing elsans and taking bins away as well and it isn’t just the odd one. It seems to work out as over a third to half of the facilities will be gone for good. So I know the showers don’t effect most of you, but I bet the elsans and bins going will.

Never, ever used a shower block, much prefer my own boat shower. When we lived near Brum & P was a volly there,he said that the showers there tended to have a fair few homeless folk kipping there who tended to leave some horrible stuff...(crap & drugs detritus) which had to be cleared.🤢🤮

I don't consider maintaining public shower blocks is a sustainable use of our money.
I would hope that finance is focussed primarily on maintaining the system, followed by provision of essential services (elsan, rubbish and water).
It seems nonsense to complain about increased financial contributions whilst at the same time complaining about reductions in none essential services don't you think ?
