You've quoted me out of context again? Not really. We fly a lot. Not to mention all the old engine oil that we've disposed of. It's a very fuel-consuming hobby is leisure boating. Well you will be racking up debits on your personal pollution profile.

It's a hobby, and fairly harmless, keeps me happy.

The boating or the changing or the oil?

Kris's link is coming up as "file not found" for me. Is it this?

How do I know if my stove meets DEFRA standards?

I read that DEFRA was created in 2001 so I think it's fairly safe to say that my stove isn't DEFRA approved.

Kris's link is coming up as "file not found" for me. Is it this? That is definitely another deliberately misleading sign. These are not licence conditions, and the only reason it mentions as such is to create a false fear of sanction.

A more effective course of action to tackle air pollution would be to make it illegal to drive single occupancy cars around London or even ban private vechiles all together. But the motor industry is powerful so this won't happen . Instead it's easier to attack the easier visable targets that are boaters. Whilst the one organisation that should be standing up for us, bends to which ever voice shouts the loudest.

I'd love to see them put up "please respect other towpath users" signs for idiot cyclists. With lots of details, anti social behaviour law and local authorities. Not just "pedestrian priority" something more serious. With the lovely new CRT branding.
They won't do it. If they did the militant cyclists would rip them off and throw them in the canal.
Near canary wharf a private land owner had to put steel barriers (key clamp type railings 48.3mm size) on a permissive path "no cycling permitted". Not to stop cyclists but to slow the buggers down as it is technically a riverside footway. Chicanes. As soon as they were bolted down to the stanchion bases and the contractors left the cyclists turned up and wrecked all of it.
And that was on privately owned land with signange specifically saying cycling is not authorised.
Cycling rant over

Interesting to see CRT attempting to stop people building or refitting boats on towpaths. That's something I have always found a bit of a nuisance when someone strips the interior leaves it on the towpath and runs a big frame generator to provide power and puts all their equipment in the path. That sort of work should take place in a boatyard. I've even seen someone running a diesel Genny and grinding the whole cabin with a disc. Opposite some houses. Idiots and inconsiderate.
There seems to be a general move to giving towpath dwellers a bad name. Helped by the idiots from both sides.
I just hope boaters don't get the same reputation as pikeys who are universally hated.
I think that could happen.
