A more effective course of action to tackle air pollution would be to make it illegal to drive single occupancy cars around London or even ban private vechiles all together. But the motor industry is powerful so this won't happen . Instead it's easier to attack the easier visable targets that are boaters. Whilst the one organisation that should be standing up for us, bends to which ever voice shouts the loudest. Air pollution from cars is different from solid fuel stoves in that the former is invisible and in the main undectable without special equipment. Whereas thick smoke coming from a badly-fuelled stove is very visible and the emission from just one boat can severely affect people, especially if they have asthma. Anyway, in London there is already the low emission charge - more polluting vehicles have to pay a fee to enter. And of course the congestion charge in central London. Maybe boats in London should have the same charges levied?

The sign says CRT takes breaches seriously. There's a big one on the Middlewich Branch which they're not taking seriously at all. Ignore the sign.

Interesting to see CRT attempting to stop people building or refitting boats on towpaths. That's something I have always found a bit of a nuisance when someone strips the interior leaves it on the towpath and runs a big frame generator to provide power and puts all their equipment in the path. That sort of work should take place in a boatyard. I've even seen someone running a diesel Genny and grinding the whole cabin with a disc. Opposite some houses. Idiots and inconsiderate. There seems to be a general move to giving towpath dwellers a bad name. Helped by the idiots from both sides. I just hope boaters don't get the same reputation as pikeys who are universally hated. I think that could happen. Why not just take photos of these people and post them here. How about a thread (or section) titled "Inconsiderate Boaters" ? Or "Arseholes of the Cut" ? And just what is that heap of shite boat doing still parked just north of Nantwich? It's a Health Hazard. As usual, filthy, unkempt boat = no licence displayed.

I'm aware they can afford to maintain the infrastructure, but choose not to. They would rather spend money on signs like this one. I was reading something the other day sorry I can't remember where now, that it costs something like £32/hr for every hr of vounlnteer time, so it would be cheaper to employ lock keepers than have volunteers. It was here - www.thefloater.org/the-floater-october-2018/crts-award-for-openness-exploredI posted a link on C&RT's volunteer facebook page which 'celebrates volunteering'. C&RT have not disputed the figure.
