The NBTA claim its discriminatory, does anyone know why they claim that?
Making false claims won't garnish support.

Not a direct answer thebfg ... however, the reason I and many other boaters are old is because we've spent a life time working to earn the dosh to be able to afford this life style. It's not cheap if you pay your way. Sadly many young ones (and not so young too) want the 'penny and the bun' and want the life style without putting in the work. I wish them well with that, but it's a major irritation to have some of the same folks lecturing us about privilege. Rog

Rog I’d say boating is relatively cheap all in all. £1200 for a license compares well with my council tax bill of £3700 for instance. If you live aboard and have no home mooring it’s about the cheapest way of living I can think of. Well assuming you rule out being homeless.

I wish them well with that, but it's a major irritation to have some of the same folks lecturing us about privilege. Rog Ah didums did someone say something you didn’t like? If your going to reference my posts then I’m going to reply. The lack of empathy for other peoples situations seems to be very common in modern society. Which is sad really. I’m not a continuous cruiser, I have a home mooring, but I can still empathise with cc’ers. It’s the two tier licencing that most people object to. Any price increases should be shared equally by all boaters. Although this surcharge on boaters isn’t about raising more money, because it isn’t going to raise more money. It will cost more to enforce and will lead to more liscence evasion.(which is already on the rise.) So it seems the surcharge is to further divide boaters( which it’s done very well.) ps I find the insinuation that I don’t pay my way or don’t want to pay my way very distasteful. I’ve always had a licence, insurance and a safety cert all the time I’ve had a boat. In fact for the last four years or so I’ve been paying a surcharge already. So I pay proportionally more than most people on here for use of less of the system. But yet I’m the free loader? Rog if you’ve got something to say to me say it to me directly.

I get that CRT need to increase licence costs due to the reduction in DEFRA funding, but I personally would sooner see it applied across the board, even though that meant me paying more. Really though, the action which should be taken is to put pressure on DEFRA to reverse their decision.
