Not a direct answer thebfg ... however, the reason I and many other boaters are old is because we've spent a life time working to earn the dosh to be able to afford this life style. It's not cheap if you pay your way. Sadly many young ones (and not so young too) want the 'penny and the bun' and want the life style without putting in the work. I wish them well with that, but it's a major irritation to have some of the same folks lecturing us about privilege. Rog Iβll quote it again rog. Are you denying that your not talking about me. Weasley not naming me. If your going to make comments about people on a public forum you have to expect that they are going to reply.

Couldn't agree more ... even think it should include wide beams.
But there are higher priorities we need to spend on than the canals.
And the London problem isn't really about licenses anyway is it ?

dogless. I realise some boaters are old, some are disabled and others have different protected characteristics. But the policy doesn't take that into account. It would be discriminatory if only old people had to pay but every boat owner regardless of age will have to pay it. I'm just wondering what specific part they claim is discriminatory.

I believe thebfg the claim is that it is discriminating because it's only boaters without a home mooring who will have to pay the surcharge ... and I guess they're right. Personally the license fee should be as it is, with across the board rises as required. I was just having a mild rant against those that look on my generation as the constant enemy camp ... be that Boater protesters, Just Stop Oil protesters, or indeed many others ... as if it's so unfair. We weren't gifted what we have we had to earn it. Rog

We weren't gifted what we have we had to earn it. Rog Most youngsters have got no chance of earning it Rog. Unless your born with a silver spoon ( parents who can help you.) your born into a poverty trap in this country. No wonder as they have got older and realise their situation that they have got pissed off. You seem to be in denial about this, but this is the reality.

Both our children, and most of their friends have earned enough money to have saved a mortgage deposit and brought houses. The majority of these youngsters, all in their 20s have done this without being gifted money. I am aware that lots of people are struggling financially but lots are doing just fine.

So itβs all a lie then? Because your children and their friends are okay, it must not be correct? Not trying to be presumptuous but I imagine your children are in there 40βs now? Not really the generation most effected. Itβs people who are now in their 20βs who are the first to really feel the brunt. Unless something is done subsequent generations are going to be worse off so your grandchildren and great grandchildren maybe?
