Terrific and rare photo of Leeds & Liverpool Steel Boat ready to lock in at Waterloo Dock on the Liverpool side of the River Mersey. Towed across the river from Birkenhead by a tug with a load of upto 60 tons of grain for H & R Ainscough's Mill at Burscough Circa 1960. Photo courtesy of Kerne Steam Tug Society

Derek Bent thinks it is M/b Boadicea. This was the boat that ended up on Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland. Sadly it was cut up in the 1990's, despite attempts by I W A over there to save her.

It doesn’t have a ballast tank. Wye is a nice boat and used to be owned by a friend of mine. I put the current owner onto it, as it needed someone to look after it. His idea was to hire it out, but I think the take up would be small. You never know I suppose as a niche market, hiring out historic boats.

Ex B. I. Transport grain boat 'A 38' pictured at Barton/Trafford Power Station Manchester in 1950's having discharged coal there when under the ownership of Albert Blundell of Chorley who had several wooden boats as well on this contract. 'A 38 went on to operate for s short while on the Gravel Traffic on the River Soar and then ending up on the Grand Union Canal London suburbs. Note for MAGNETMAN this is the same boat that appeared earlier in these posts painted blue. We still have not had a positive I. D. if this is the same boat

I think this one was OUSE. Mentioned it earlier in the thread still in same place with a proper cover on it. Hoxton on the Regents section of the GU. Not much of the original boat left really as it was overplated new bottom and bows almost entirely rebuilt for some reason. As for the blue one near Uxbridge I still don't know the name.

One of my Favourite boats M/b 'Angelo' pictured about to cross Barton Tank over the M/c Ship Canal mid 1950's, steering is my Uncle John Gibbons and sat on the engine house is his younger brother George. They are on their way towing a dumb boat to collect coal at either Marsland Green or Boothstown Tips to supply Stretford Gas Works.
