This election like all others will flush out the dirt..guess it'll depend on how much muck is thrown and how much sticks to sway the minds of the fence sitters..

Nigel Farage on his LBC show last night prophesized that this was May being concerned over the 2015 Election expenses fraud. Half an hour later the CPS declared that 30 tory staff and MP's could face charges.
She'd obviously been given the nod that trouble was brewing and rather than see her 12 majority whittle away due to people being up before the beak, she called this election, those candidates who are suspects will disappear, replaced by squeaky clean newbies.
If the other parties really want to scupper her then they would be best voting against an election today to see how it pans out.
For me, i'll vote Ukip again as Dominic Grieve is my MP and has a massoof majority and is a softy softy Brexit remoaner. If I was elsewere I would vote tactically, If a Labour constituancy then would vote Ukip, if a Conservative marginal then would vote tory.
I think on the night labour will be decimated by gains for both Tory and the Liberal not so Democrats.
I will get home after work at about 11pm and settle down for an Election Night Special with a large Donner from Galaxy bab shop in Uxbridge, a selection of nibbles for the memsahib and a bottle of Bacardi and mixers to match......oh yes, a big bag of bombay mix......not the one from tesco with those stupid shavings of coconut but a decent bag of floor sweepings from Iver tandoori....nom nom nom

Especially after the last Con/Lib/Dem coalition. I think it went better than a Conservative government would have gone. The Lib Dems kept them in check a little bit. Their influence may have been small but it was noticeable. I agree, but I was thinking more about the damage done to the Lib/Dem party support.

I predict it will have the lowest ever turnout. I don't think this country has any faith in modern politics anymore as they just see the rich getting richer and the poor (young) poorer. We need a total revamp where we can actually vote for people we like.

Totally agree with the above. Party politics should have nothing to do with elections.. Every candidate should be held to what they personally promise, and removed from govt if they fail to uphold their promises.. ( I know, never going to happen ) Personally, anyone who wants to be a politician should be automatically excluded... For a true democracy, parliament should be selected by lottery from the entire voting age public, with a maximum term of 4 years.. Civil servants should also have no say in the rulings of parliament, and in fact should be also limited in the time they are allowed to be associated with westminster, having to rotate through county councils every, say, 2 years...

I have to say that I agree with what Corbyn says about politicians being controlled by a few very rich powerful people. There will always be those who have more powwr and money but it really is taking the piss now. Of course much of this power will be coming from people outside the UK! The spungers at the other end of the spectrum are played off by the rich to create a smoke screen while most of the strain on the majority sitting in the middle is caused by them. Well anyway, that's one factor. Another factor is the 'global village' effect. As other nations become more wealthy there is more competition. The days of the British Empire where we could cream off other nations have gone. Countries like China, Russia, India now want thier fair share of the cake. So we in turn have to accept less. As a result the majority in the middle have to work harder for less. Finally, population growth means there are too many ants on this giant orange. The planet will probably deal with us in the end. Anyway, I hope everyone had a great Easter..lol.

Agree with a lot of this bassplayer but to balance that you have to remember the (not so distant) past when governments rose and fell at the whim of union bosses. It seems there will always be those who wield great power in the background (be it unions, media moguls or bosses of major industries) I don't think it is "really taking the piss now" .... I think it always has been ...... just some were better at hiding in the shadows.

One thing which is has usually remained constant is the minority controlling the majority. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimws more subtle. TRUE democracy should balance this, however whilst you will rarely get nice kind sensitive types standing for election I doubt we will ever get there.

The reality is that the country would run quite happily without the government.
All rolls are performed by civil servants, who could just continue.
The direction the country takes (private enterprise, nationisation etc) is the only real purpose the politicians provide, and most of the politics is just hot air and window dressing.
As the main parties have drawn towards the centre, the difference between them has almost disappeared.
If this process continues we can just leave the civil servants to carry on, and save ourselves the hot air.

Oliver Cromwell said this today to parliament in 1653:
"It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.
Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?
Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go!"
