I've managed to get quite a few people to apply. What I am getting back is disappointing though. CRT seem to be picking and choosing who attends, ie they have a black list of people they do not wish to attend. The usual naysayers will scoff at that statement, but I'm confident in suggesting it. People think involve are choosing the attendees, but that's not the case.

I'm sure Crt and involve have sat down before and discussed the outcome. They would have also discussed the undesirable elements that it would be best to keep out of the process. The whole thing is a stitch up from beginning to end. I think the best course of action with Crt, is to start bombarding MP's with emails questioning the lack of political oversight or any oversight for that matter.

Dear Mr Xxxxxxx
" I am sorry you feel that you don’t have confidence in the review. I think the sentiment from the press release is based on anecdotal references – for example, personally, I recall that Steve Haywood was writing about it in his Canal Boat column in March.
But presumably if boaters really to feel that the current system is the most equitable way of sharing the financial contribution made by boaters, then that will become apparent in the consultation.
Kind regards
Jonathan Ludford"

Rather than CRT picking and choosing it would not surprise me if individuals who are considered as being too 'outspoken' or 'disruptive' are removed from the list before people are randomly selected by Involve for the workshops. For the workshops to be effective they need to have people with a range of views and opinions, but also people who are prepared to listen to others and not stifle any views different to their own. However I would have thought that the list of 'unsuitable' people should be very small or the workshops will not be representative of the boating group and would only reflect a range of views preferred by CRT. I would hope Involve would ensure the list is very small, otherwise their credibility as an independent survey group will be nil.

I would hope Involve would ensure the list is very small, otherwise their credibility as an independent survey group will be nil. I attended various meetings involving crt and boat owners over a period of about 5 years. On average, a dozen meetings a year at one point. I can honestly say, I never once came across anyone being disruptive. Neither did I come across anyone attempting to stifle others views. I think you underestimate the lengths crt will take to stifle "opposing" views, as performed by Richard Parry at the MK boaters meeting, where he ignored a guy who had his hand up for over an hour. Eventually Parry called the meeting to end, and only acknowledged the chap with his hand up, when the then head of boating pointed the fact out. Strangely enough, the head of boating was removed from his post three days later.

I have just received my reply back from CRT I applied on the 27/4/17 and reminded them again on the 5/5/17
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately the deadline for the workshops participation closed at midnight on Sunday 30th April 2017, so sadly I will be unable to include you in the selection process which is being carried out by Involve on our behalf.
Please do not worry, you will be able to provide your suggestions and thoughts at stage 3 of the consultation when every customer with a current boat licence will be contacted to comment, this will be launched around the end of July.
Kind regards
Amanda

Well I got this on the 3rd of may from CRT. The odd thing is, of those that I had asked to apply, the ones accepted were told as such two weeks before I got the email below. 😂😂😂 There are crooks everywhere. (Read the last sentence).
"Hello,
Thank you for expressing an interest in participating in the licensing consultation workshops we are holding across the country for the second stage of our licence consultation. We have had an amazing response to the invitation. Over 900 customers expressed an interest in taking part. As you are aware, places are limited and there are approximately 135 spaces available. A random selection process will now take place by Involve who are managing the licensing consultation on our behalf. Involve will use the information you have provided to ensure that we have a good mix of customer representation at each workshop. Those selected will be contacted over the next few days to confirm the venue and attendance."

What do the Involve people know about boats, boaters and boat licences ? www.involve.org.uk/about-involve/
What do they mean with "A good mixture of Customer representation" if they are choosen by Involve ?
There's a very strange- and most unpleasant smell in their writings.
Peter.

They haven't provided any (true) reason for this review yet, unless we are to believe there was no intended purpose for it, and it appeared in a miraculous vision to CaRT. If there was a genuine reason they would have looked into when licencing was last reviewed, and known that their press statement was not true.

They know nothing. But do they need to? They will manage the gathering and collation if reviews. They are good at it and independent. It's surely better than crt doing it as they will probably just lose the bad feedback

They are good at it ? ? ? ? ?and independent. ? ? ? ? ?I've come across them before but can't quite think when. They do CLAIM to be transparent and accountable. That could be put to the test after this. Is it just who thinks they are data collected and not been tasked to actually find the answers to the (non)problems

A cynic may suggest that using a third party company to conduct the 'review' permits the owner to distance themselves from any findings, whilst at the same time washing their hands of any responsibility.
My limited experience of 'reviews' has always been a form of window dressing to instigate unpopular changes.
My belief is that the agenda was created long ago. What happens now is irrelevant to the changes coming.
I actually don't really mind. But I would prefer openess and honesty.

I suspect the result is not going to be linked to the outcome of the review. The interesting bit will be how they make it sound that it is.
