Called for diesel at Cowroast today, and was told that the Aylesbury Arm stoppage due to fallen trees ( which we'd been notified of earlier by C&RT) also caused the death of a boater.
This evening the stoppage was cleared, but no mention of a death, and as yet I haven't spotted anything on local news.
Anybody heard anything?

I get email updates from CRT about stoppages and there's been nothing today about a stoppage on the Aylesbury Arm and I also can't find anything in news media about such an incident, so hopefully it isn't so.

We are always cautious about parking under big trees.

Maybe he meant parking the bus?
Similar danger in a vehicle as in a boat. In the storm in 1987 my neighbours car was flattened by an oak tree (nobody in the car).
Also in the 80s a boater was killed by a falling tree near Cookham on the Thames.

Parking- The act or practice of temporarily leaving a vehicle or maneuvering a vehicle into a certain location. www.thefreedictionary.com/parkingA vehicle (from Latin: vehiculum) is a mobile machine that transports people or cargo. Typical vehicles include wagons, bicycles, motor vehicles (motorcycles, trucks, buses), railed vehicles (trains, trams), watercraft (ships, boats), aircraft and spacecraft. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VehicleSo this would suggest that "parking" can be considered to be correct terminology.

Yes, why not? CRT refer to handling a boat as driving. "On all waterways, the rule of the road is to drive on the right." - canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/boating/a-guide-to-boating/boaters-handbook/casting-off-cruising-and-tying-up

If your getting your information about boating from Crt, then you are trully fucked. Just think about the statement you've quoted. "On all waterways, the rule of the road" it's not a fucking road! It's a waterway.

Its no wonder so many people handle boats with a car driver mentality What CRT should say is something like this A boat must always be navigated on the starboard side (right) of a river or channel. Each boat alters course to starboard (right) and passes port to port (left). That would be much better.

Its no wonder so many people handle boats with a car driver mentality exactly, including trying to go as fast as they do on the roads.
