One of the K1s was removed by the owner because it shook the boat too much. They are lovely one lungers to look at and hear running but realistically they are more suited to fishing boats than narrow boats because of their size and original design. The J is a bit more sensible but they didn't do a single of that engine.

I'm not sure that Kelvin engines were ever fitted to working narrow boats. Possibly the J2 or P4 but I don't think so. To be fair I think the same goes for Gardner full diesel units. The old Gardner semi diesels were fitted but although the 2LW and 2L2 were nice units I don't believe they are actually narrow boat engines.

You forgot to mention the lack of filling loosening vibration, smoke, oily hands and dirty finger nails and face, not to mention the use of diesel fuel as aftershave and the requirement to wear ridiculous period clothing or at the very least a neckerchief.

Someone told me once that MtB is only 2' 6" tall, is that true? no it's a lie, he's 3' 6". Looking at the video that makes the Kelvin K1 2'6" high...

I have no urge to wear period clothing. I think it would be ridiculous for a boat like mine to have a modern hair drier engine. But I can see the attraction.

You've got an engine with more than 1 pot that doesn't require a prayer to the gods to get it going - it also lives in an engine room not your corridor so you haven't got to be locked in with the damn thing. I'm guessing your exhaust doesn't blow lovely sooty smoke ring in your face either? You're excused 🚢⚓👍

I've never seen a diesel powered hair drier.
