We had many plaster Gollies. In Sainsbury's we would pull out the paper gollies behind the back label from the jam & marmelade jars on the shelf. I find Barbie dolls offensive, depicting 'Caucasians' as white, skinny nudes. 'Golly' was that miserable estate keeper in Lord of the Glen. Barbies dolls are horrible. Bit of an iffy history as the Barbie Doll was based on a German sex toy

Laakson Kuningas in Finnish. Yes, Monarch. He was in the new series of Cold Feet, smashed his own guitar.

I went to a private secondary school in surrey mainly inhabited by prat bankers and stockbrokers kids. There were one or two wogs as well. My best friend was an Iranian lad. Anyway at one point one of the white boys was going out with an asian girl. The other boys used to describe her as a "spearchucker". At the time it seemed fairly harmless but looking at it more closely it is quite offensive because she was not african. Dr Oliver Spearchucker Jones of the 4077th MASH

Finland had chocolates for many years called 'Negro's Kiss' but that name has gone coz Negro's racist innit. Interesting that the word "negro" has gained a negative connotation. It used to be neutral, along with Caucasian and Mongolian (which now also has racist overtones). Symptom of a superiority complex in the Caucasian race, perhaps?

If I was in Darkest Africa (or Luton!) and someone on the street shouted "Hey, you, white guy!" I would just say "What?" and not consider that nig-nog or Paki to be at all racist, just trying to get my attention. It's real wars that kill millions, not word-play descriptions. Tony Blair still at large at large is he? You're a policeman - arrest him!

I see some careless Tory MP is in the shit for saying "nigger in the woodpile". The phrase just means the hidden problem. Ok these days it's seen as old fashioned and offensive to those looking to be offended, and as such she was ill advised to use it. But it isn't a racist remark. Despite that, the news is full of "MP's racist remark". I despair at people's stupidity. I liked this too Nick. Unfortunately it just goes to show we are too stupid to see spin and do anything about it. Fair play you got me guv....

The media are too quick to jump on the racism banned wagon. They love it.

I'm confused by this. What are you trying to tell me? Straight question Nick....is intelligence more important than kindness? That's a bit like saying are apples more important than oranges. Depends on the circumstances, of course. And both are desirable characteristics. I suppose one is purely innate, the other can be aquired with some effort if it isn't innate. But anyway, they are not binary things, they come in varying degrees.
But I still don't understand what you are trying to tell me (presuming you are trying to tell me something?)

Interesting answer and says a lot about you.

Intelligence and education are not the same thing, and sometimes the most educated people have the least common sense, a phenomenon I am sure we have all witnessed. Nick is educated, and knows the correct pronunciation of Greek gods' names, but in terms of being streetwise or having any common sense, he is firmly rooted at the foot of Division 4.

Very good, but you shifted the word 'kindness' to 'education'. My question was intelligence' more important than KINDNESS? Grrr..., lol
