Stabby, I'm not sure if you know but there are showers inside a back door of the visitor centre at Westport lake. Not shown on the map when I last looked.

OK, the latest news is that I have decided to carry on heading north, and am aiming for the River Weaver. I'm at Westport Lake right now, probably one of the prettiest visitor moorings I know. I'll maybe take tomorrow off and do an engine service. My boy is coming up on 8th September and will help me thrash the boat back to Rose Narrowboats in time for blacking on the 18th. Then I'm going back to Ramsgate for the week as Rose Narrowboats say I can't stay on the boat while the blacking is done. I'm staying with my girlfriend but I think we are probably going to split up as it just isn't working out what with me living so far away now and being so boat obsessed. I saw a boat called "Mr T and Scary" yesterday, how strange is that? The boat is called "Eagle N°5", and the owners (nick) names are "Mr T & Scary", she's a very nice boat built by Dave Harris, which I found out on Canalplan's Boat Index. Did you check out if the paint of the "Scary" bit was still wet, as it may have just been painted on after reading on TB that you were on your way there . Peter.

If you're going on the weaver. When you come off you could turn left and cruise for about half a day. You'll come to the bank walkers house off the bridgewater. Maybe you'd like to stab him and then set off back.
It won't take you long and you'd be doing the world a big favour.

Right, time for an update. I've had a couple of days in Middlewich but I'm fed up with the traffic noise now, plus there's nothing more I can help Ricco so I'm pushing off now, going to spend a bit of time in Anderton. I have a minor problem with my own boat in that the starter solenoid seems to be giving up the ghost so I might have a go at sorting that out next week.

Yes, I might nip up to Preston and get one, trouble is there are a few different starter motors fitted to the BMC 1.5, plus it's an exchange deal anyway so I'll have to take the old one off first. In any event if it does pack up completely I can always get the engine going by shorting out the solenoid terminals with a screwdriver or somesuch.

Well hopefully it won't let you down but just in case it does I'm sure everyone will be keeping there fingers crossed that it happens in an area with some suitable scrotes about who need butchering

Top tip for you.
If it's a 3 bolt starter the bottom bolt can be an utter twat to get at - depending on adapter plate, mounts and engine bearer arrangement. Once you've got it to bits, put it back in with just the top and middle bolt, it doesn't need the lowest one tbh.
I set ours up like this when I put the new engine in 7 years and 970 hours ago.

I'm moored only a few miles from Preston if you need any help, there's a great autu elec wholesalers who I'm pretty sure will do a replacement solenoid without the motor! ribblesdaleauto.co.uk/?v=79cba1185463

If the starter doesn't turn on the key but does with a screwdriver short, is the problem the ignition switch? Or maybe a poor connection on the solenoid.
