Ban the general population from possessing hand guns but arm more and more police officers.
Hmm. Dodgy.

All 3 firearms used by Michael Ryan (Hungerford) were legal.
All 4 firearms used by Thomas Hamilton (Dunblane) were legal.

As I said you can buy guns on most street corners in this country the people buying them arnt the sort of people that should be buying them but they do. The reality is that another Hungerford, Dunblane could happen at any time in this country as the guns are out there and available sad but true. Most of the Eastern european countries have large supplies of them and with the ease that you can cross borders its sooooo easy to bring them to this country! thank the EU for the open border system that allows it

All 3 firearms used by Michael Ryan (Hungerford) were legal. Are you sure about that? Your own link posted later would seem to say different. The Act was passed in response to the Hungerford massacre of 1987, where sixteen people had been killed by a man using an illegally owned semi-automatic rifle (M1 Carbine), a legally owned semi-automatic rifle (Type 56), and a handgun (Beretta 92).

I just read this one Wikipedia "...On 14 July, he applied for another variation, to cover two semi-automatic rifles, which was approved on 30 July. At the time of the massacre, he was in licensed possession of the following weapons: Zabala shotgun Browning shotgun Beretta 92FS semi-automatic 9 mm pistol CZ ORSO semi-automatic .32-caliber pistol Bernardelli .22-caliber pistol Type 56 7.62×39mm semi-automatic rifle[6] M1 carbine .30 (7.62×33mm) semi-automatic rifle (a rare "Underwood" model) Ryan used the Beretta pistol, and the Type 56 and M1 rifles, in the massacre" "In licensed possession of" implies legality.

As I said its about control. 100% eliminating the risk is impossible. Just because you cannot totally eliminate the risk doesn't mean a country like ours should not have measures in place to reduce the possibility. What we cannot say is how many more massacres like Dunblane would have taken place had the legislation not been changed.

As I said you can buy guns on most street corners in this country overstating the situation detracts immensely from your argument. The US doesn't need terrorism to reduce the population - they manage to do that all by themselves. Apparently the latest killer was a quiet law abiding citizen. He probably believes in free speech (as in his right to voice an opinion) and didn't like country music. (Most) Americans are quite simply childish (as in immature) who can't see beyond their own scrap-filled backyard. They deserve Trump. Let us just hope that he doesn't lead the free world into WW3.

I dont disagree with you its just that guns dont shoot themselves [not yet anyway] so the real problem is the person pulling the trigger. Yes guns being made illegal makes things harder, but the reality is full automatic weapons are available cheaply from Eastern Europe their was a program about it recently, but because of my background I have always know of the problem. I hate guns all of them, air guns, shotguns eveything!!

I dont disagree with you its just that guns dont shoot themselves I think that's a daft statement. In that case, why can't everyone have nuclear weapons, as "nuclear weapons don't fire themselves" ? images by mudlarker2, on Flickr The great leader would agree ...... He wants them

The problem is foxy that the bad people know how to get weapons the good ones dont so they normally end up in the hands of the ones that will use them never a good thing as John has just shown you

It's when someone gets one (or 10) who doesn't see a gun as a tool for "work", but is very angry at the world and thinks they have nothing to loose that shit hits the fan.
