It is the best time of year to be on the cut I agree. I always like winter. I was just thinking that after the boating season is over there may be a general reduction in the use of the forum in general.
No idea if its an accurate observation.

I would have reversed your logic.
Now people aren't boating they have time for this nonsense.
We're probably both wrong.
I can't stand most of what features on tv, so I come on here and that's pretty much all year round.

Do you think that the vote indicates that less than 10% of the membership are genuine individuals, or that less than 10% are interested in the competition. I know there are many 'duds' on the membership list (sock puppets, one-off joiners etc) but would be disappointed if we only have 29 genuine members. Any thoughts? Rog I get the impression the "genuine members" can be counted on 3 hands. Its a shame that Mr Stabby's socket puppets will end up biasing the photo competition but there we are. The boating season is over now. If you would care to check the member list, you will note that none of my sock puppets have been online since the poll started. I have cast a vote myself, and have stated above which photo I voted for, although it was not an easy decision to arrive at, given the outstanding quality of so many of the photos. If I had wanted to skew the competition, I would not have withdrawn my own runaway winning entry on the eve of the poll.

I have no idea who any of your socket puppies are anyway. I was simply attempting to inject humour into the thread.
Its good that the winner of the competition is going to win fairly but to quote clark gable "frankly my dear I don't give a damn".

Between now and April is the best boating time don't you think? Quieter than the rest of the year. Lord of all you survey. Sadly I have to forego boating until after christmas, but will be back underway before January. As Wainwright famously wrote, "there's no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing". Rog We boat form Spring to Autumn mainly due to me insisting in messing about mending, improving or maintaining things through the winter. This year I've cocked up Halloween, the laying up supper and bonfire night by having a month's slot in the paint shed, all the soft furnishings are taken home and will stay here until the Xmas bash and New Year's event - we will hopefully get the odd short day trip once we are out of the shed. We don't suffer so badly for winter closures - the main obstacle to winter cruising for us is going on Strong Streams during periods of heavy rainfall, we have only ever been frozen in once in 10 years!

I go boating from March to September, simply because I need to work six months a year and it makes more sense to work in the Winter than in the Summer for various reasons, including but not limited to the fact that much of the canal network is closed for maintenance in the Winter, I can earn very good money in the run up to Christmas, and I save on the amount of coal I burn.

My list, therefore, of who qualifies for Thunderboat's Second Photo Competition is.. Excellent work! Sorry, but I seem to have missed your recent promotion from Official TB 'Banal Poster Extraordinaire' to Official TB 'Photo Comp Rule maker & Policing Cuntstable' 👍

I have a Black List also. Yes and it's about as meaningless as your voting list!👎

I think (therefore I am), Patty’s photo sums up the whole ethos of Thunderboat.
A crude raft held together by reeds, and propelled by a Windrush sail, afloat in a beautiful gin clear stream.
Patty’s raft signifies the end of CWDF for many, and the survivors and mutineers cobbled together a make shift vessel to carry on with their journey. That raft has survived the initial rough stuff, and now sails proudly in calm waters.
The actual stream in Patty’s photo looks so tempting. As a nipper I used to spend; hours, day’s in such water’s, either; swimming in, rope swinging over, fishing for trout, building rafts, building bridges, building den’s by, digging Tiger traps by, constructing dams (that even President Herbert Hoover would have been proud of), building tree houses in Weeping Willow’s over, or purely lazing by. The stream was a constant source of entertainment.
