Humans are evolved to be omnivores, eating both meat and vegetables.
I have no problem with eating meat free meals but I do eat meat. Each to his own.
This vegan business however winds me up a treat, nutritionally it is not possible to obtain vitamin B12 from anywhere other than an animal derived source. The products sold as B12 substitutes are not absorbed by humans so the diet is not nutritionally adequate.
Also habelling products as made from “vegan leather” is ludicrous, it’s PLASTIC FFS!!!!

Thats all true but something which occurred to me is that humans have evolved to a point where they no longer need to take part in high energy activities to survive. Like running after or away from animals, manually cutting wood for heating. Etc.
So although humans evolved to consume other mammals it actually isn't really necessary for -most people- in the modern age.
Nobody needs to climb everest or run a marathon. They never will need to as part of survival.
I disagree with a vegan diet and would not want my kids to do it but vegetarian makes some sense to me even though I have been a dedicated meat eater for my entire life.
There was quite a funny (if you find this sort of thing funny) story about a vegan who climbed Everest to me prove something but then died. Oops.

I don't think posts in threads necessarily have to have relevance to the subject matter...if they do I think we've all maybe gone astray from time to time... it makes this place different to nearly every other forum. a more pub like conversation. That is what I truly love about this site. You get occasional random posts appear and the thread diverts along all sorts of interesting byways before (usually) getting back on theme' I love it .... it's just like chatting to a bunch of mates in the pub ..... brilliant and no pressure from anybody

Well Im sitting in summer house wrapped in blankets eating popcorn and drinking vino..so Im in my pub..let the conversation flow..... I have earnt my rest time..I've started clearing garden for winter but abandoned task when 2 Billy Goats Gruff rocked up t'other side of fence..its too cold for me to send them on their way with hosepipe so Ive retreated to wait n see..hence the popcorn!..cos Its a bit like a soap opera here..cept all the exciting stuff revolves around nature..knotweed, tall trees, ponies and goats....

A lot of what I eat is veggie, quorn chunks in broth add a good texture, the chicken pieces are fine, marinated in herbs. I eat fish fairly often. Eggs are plentiful, the chickens need culling when they've stopped laying, the two young cocks never started so they were soup! I like seeing sheep and cattle on the hills around me, the land isn't fit for much else, so why not eat them. Latest discovery is fried halloumi, yum!

I'm not vegetarian I eat fish, having been a commercial fisherman on numerous occasions it would be hypocritical of me not to. I don't eat red meat, but I make an exception for my enemies. I will eat there still beating hearts after I've ripped them out of their chests with my bare hands. So tomsk beware!

magnetman is safe as last I heard he was sitting on a small ferro motorsailer near Monaco being buffeted by the wash from inconsiderate megayacht owners.

I love meat, especially Pork. I have often finished a late turn shift, stopped off at a 24hr supermarket and picked up some Pork steaks or chops and then pig my way through them in the early hours of the morning with lashings of gravy which watching a film on tv.....in fact, i've just talked myself into stopping off at tesco when I finish at 11 tonight...nom nom nom I also do Halloumi whenever we BBQ. The sprogs love it as their starter and call it sqeaky cheese. You gotta watch it though coz it will burn quick.

Pork loin steaks and Bacon are 2 of the things I find it difficult to resist. The other two are lamb chops and medium rump steak.
Oh. And sausages. I really like sausages.

You'd be shit at being a vegetarian. I'm just scoffing macaroni and assorted green veg cheese but I had a bacon earlier. I've noticed that even the most determined veggies struggle when they smell bacon.
