As my OH and kids are vegetarians I have become one as well after 42 years of meat eating.
I was surprised how easy it was. One helpful product I found is Linda McCartney mozzarella burgers. They have a similar texture to dead cow burgers. And taste good.
I don't like Quorn as it is fungus mould.
Wetherspoons veggie burgers are gr8,
Any more goodies out there ?

Linda mccartneys sausages. I agree with you about quorn, although their "bacon" is good.

The Sausage rolls are OK, don't mind Quorn or soya mince, cauliflower bakes, Mediterranean slices that sort of thing are OK.
Don't make a habit of eating veggie stuff but wouldn't turn my nose up at it.

I really am not having a pop, but am curious about veggie products pretending to be meat. It seems an obvious contradiction. Similar to someone giving up smoking, but vaping instead.
I'm not a massive meat eater, simply because I'm not a huge fan, so often choose veggie options when dining out.
The market for these veggie versions of meat products would suggest there isn't enough range in vegetarian dining.

I The market for these veggie versions of meat products would suggest there isn't enough range in vegetarian dining. Rog No it suggests that people who turn vegetarian lack imagination and need food in the same shape as they are used to. Especially with Linda McCartneys products they have been available for years, one of the reasons she started the company was to promote vegetarianism so making sausages and burgers makes sense. Because it makes it easier for meat eaters to accept them.

I actually really like the texture and taste of beef burgers. Not sure why it is a "contradiction" to want a similar product but vegetarian ?
we often have the LM sausages as well but I find them a bit dry.
Its nowhere near similar to smoking and vaping though is it.
Meat eaters contract out killing of animals to other people and machines. Vegetarians don't.
My ideal would be to eat home produced meat like I did when i was a child living on a smallholding.
Its rather awkward to do this living in a tin box on a ditch.

Myself, I'm a vegetarian too, I started in 1973 after reading an article in a magazine how animals that are ending up on your plates are treated, and was so disgusted, as an animal lover, that I gave up meat that day. I don't eat fish either, as a lot of fish comes from fish farms where they're fed with al kinds of inferior stuff, just to make them grow quicker. There are regulary programms on tv about the fish from the sea too, that are containing plastic particules, and other rubbish, as the sea is one of the biggest dumping grounds for everything we don't want anymore. I'm not a vegan (yet) and I'm still eating eggs and cheeses, that are full of stuff that's not too good for me either, but I'm still to weak to give that up right now. If you want to have a good idea of what and how you can make some absolutely delicious vegetarian meals, you should get yourself some of the books written by Rose Elliot, I have to cover the pages with a piece of transparent plastic sheet when I'm looking into her books, as I don't want to ruin the books by my watering mouth that can almost taste how delicious these recepies are while reading them. www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/261-8960002-5490313?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=rose+elliotPeter.

If we weren't meant to eat animals, then they wouldn't be made out of meat.

I always look to Thai or Indian food if I want veggie meals. Never understood the processed met substitutes.

I think curries are a good way to get into vegetarian food. The spices provide a lot of flavour and you can always throw in replacements for meat like mushrooms, vegimeat, sweet potato. pulses.
Basically...
Fry chopped onions and garlic for a couple of mins in oil Add your mix of spices to suit, fry for a min Add a small tin of chopped tomatoes Simmer for a few mins Add meat substitute, simmer for a few more mins Add a small amount of water/cream Continue to cook for about 5 mins
Whilst talking about food. How do you all do your rice? After many years of messing about with rinsing it and other various methods I found the following works well and is very simple.
Put required amount of rice in empty saucepan Boil up water in kettle. Pour same amount of boiling water as rice in saucepan Put lid on saucepan and bring back to boil then simmer for about 12 mins.
Effectively the rice is steamed and all you need to do is fluff it up with a fork before serving.
Regarding spices. It's much cheaper to buy big packets from the Indian section of supermarkets than go for the little jars in the spices section.
A good blend for a madras type curry is chilli/paprica, cumin, garam masala, tumeric and salt/sugar to taste.
Enjoy!

I was a "going along with it" veg for 20 years. My ex used to eat pretend bacon that tasted like smoky bacon crisps - disgusting! Quorn seems like cattle feed but I like tofu, especially eating out where they've made it (grown it?) themselves. The supermarket stuff is a bit rubbery. Typical British food is meat based and trying to recreate it with vegetables doesn't work well. We used to sometimes grab a Pita full of chicken curry on the way home from the pub. One time my ex asked them to make her a veggie one. Oh how we laughed when she opened it and found a completely empty pita. Well, I laughed anyway.

Will post a link later to a veg Moussaka recipe, uses mushrooms rather than mince and tastes better than using mince.
