To be honest i don't think we need to take up arms. I just think it useful if you email the new chairman letting him know that the iwa's views about the waterways aren't the only ones and that they don't represent all boatets. This is because he is on record as saying he will fully support the iwa's waterways manifesto.

If he's already stated support for the IWA someone would have to organise a very organised organisation to have any effect I'd have thought. The terrorism option sounds more realistic.

The terrorism option sounds more realistic. an email will take 5mins max, the armed resistance thing is more of a life style choice. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, ie he hasn't heard any other opinion other than the iwa's. If enough people email him saying that the iwa don't represent them. He might think again about his un-questioning support for the iwa's agenda. Notice I say might.

Andy send an email you know its the right thing to do I have and others that care have. The man isnt stupid if he gets enough mail telling him that the IWAs position is wrong one of his staff will have to look into it

OK. I am not affiliated to any group or clubs (and don't want to be) so how do I word an individual email about this sort of topic?
I assume MPs get large number of emails and simply can't manage the workload so a lot of them will just be binned as spam.
Communication from a coherent group might work but I can't see individual personal emails doing much.
I don't know a lot about it.

I don't really want to tell you what to write. Basically I pointed out that the iwa don't represent me, that there are different views not represented by the iwa and I hoped he would take an inclusive view of the waterways rather than just following blindly what the iwa say.

It's okay I can write what I think its just I'm not convinced that it'll get read. Will look for the email address and send one off anyway.

I'll add a bit of light intimidation to the message by mentioning that I and certain others are considering forming the Provisional IWA. That'll make him notice it.

Humour is always good. As for it being effective, only if enough people do it. I've been involved in campaigns that have been sucwssful in stoping the plans of large companies basically by bombarding the appropriate person with emails. So we'll see, at least if he's got people emailing him telling him that the iwa are only one voice he might consider other views.

They have to read mail and emails that they receive I have always had a reply in the past so would expect to get one if I requested it

It's not just a case of following the iwa. The secriat is provided by them and any enquiries to the party group should be made through the iwa campaigns officer. At least it's not CaRT

I still don't know whether to renew our IWA subscription this December or not. Perhaps I should tell them my £35 has gone towards calendars for boaters this time, and that I am contributing to the canals in that way?! only you can decide that, but what do you think you get for the money?
