I've said before, that when we were new to this watery world of boats and canals, I thought we'd contribute 'in the right direction', thinking that the IWA did something good. I still don't know enough about the IWA, so I can't say - but CRT have raised the licence fee by about £35 for us so perhaps it's time to say 'Bye 'Bye IWA and Hello-CRT-can-we-have-our-next-licence-please? The IWA can ask Richard Parry to donate our £35 out of his whopping salary. You maybe should look into organisations that you help fund. Mind you £35 a year wouldn't even by 1 bottle of champagne when they are smoozing MP's.

The IWA pay well on expenses. I remember one of them quoting 150 quid to attend a meeting. An overnighter gets more. Currently, they have 1.9 million in the bank.

Perhaps they used this as inspiration for the current structure of the IWA, C&RT and the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Waterways?

Perhaps "while it's great that IWA are providing you with resources, for the benefit of all boaters they mustn't be seen to be buying undue influence" or something along those lines. Alter and rewrite,it's best if we all send in different emails.

Alter and rewrite,it's best if we all send in different emails. The trouble with the IWA Is as I've said before, at branch level they are somewhere near the right idea, in my local area the Northampton Branch look after (of a fashion) the Arm having adopted it from C&RT, they have an annual drag of the West bridge Arm to keep it sort of navigable. They put on a couple of events and have a bit of a get together and the odd guest speaker. It's not my scene but you can't fault them for effort. Peterborough branch have a bigger task they are trying to crack - Project Hereward and the reopening of the neglected Welches Damn, Forty foot and Horseway Lock a long with the campaign cruises on the neglected Old Bedford from the Tidal Great Ouse. The effort these people are putting in is massive and will benefit us all. I can't help but admire their determination, bit don't want to be a part of an organisation that takes the piss at National level. www.project-hereward.orgThere is a link on there to the Peterborough IWA branch with details of their campaign cruises on the Old Bedford if anyone is interested.

Just altered and rewrote it for you I'd rather do the PCP approach, praise, Criticism, praise. Most people will do that, in the main because they don't really have a clue about what's happening. Apathy and naivety tend to be the biggest culprits.

I still don't know whether to renew our IWA subscription this December or not. Perhaps I should tell them my £35 has gone towards calendars for boaters this time, and that I am contributing to the canals in that way?! I cancelled mine Ross when they decided they will support CRT in ripping off widebeam owners and I wasnt allowed a right of reply to it!!! Cancel it now is my advice its the only way to make them do what the members want

My idea would be this - to copy and print some of these comments (without names, just as a selection of thoughts of boaters) and send that list in with my new subscription renewal. I don't think all of the IWA people are horrible, but I do believe the bad apples (if any) should be exposed and told to shove orf. They won't listen to chip shouldered sweary weirdos. They are little men, they are in power. There is a gravy boat to cruise and schmooze on!

But what about emailing the new chairman of the all party wateways committee ( you know the topic of the thread) ?
