It would be simple to cut it up where it is. But with the risk of pollution it won't happen there.

Yes obviously - that's the first part of minimising the costs to taxpayers but it seems like this may not be a straightforward case.

Exactly, they have never signed a mooring agreement and that has fucked up everything. If they now simply abandon it they're perhaps legally in the clear and this is the hold up. I wonder on who's behalf it's being sold? How much effort contacting the owners do the harbour authority have to make before they can say it's their right to deal with it and keep pittance scrap value against their costs?

I reckon the eBay ad is a joke / scam intended to raise the profile of the vessel so that something actually gets done about it. Probably some local who is agitated about things.

Maybe the "owner" gave the boat to a tramp ? If you needed to get rid of a boat like that you could look for someone kipping in a sleeping bag under a bridge and say "hey mister do you want a superyacht - just sign here" then just bugger off. I bet that's what happened here and the legal owner of the vessel is penniless and back under the bridge in his sleeping bag.

I thought the same but the description is a bit like they've told someone they know about their "plight" including the intention to abandon it and that someone said "If I can sell it, 50/50?" had a quick chat over the details and made the rest up. Nothing ventured nothing gained, some mug might even offer something for it and then problem gone and a few £ to boot.

I'm afraid that from doing further research about the vessel their is something very dodgy about it. Not entirely sure what but it might have hundreds of dead Somalis in it with no passports. That would be a real headache to deal with so I think TB should look for another club ship - preferably one floating. Its a shame nobody was on the ball when Planet was sold for £12.5k. That WAS a bargain and floating !!

It's a serious size isn't it? If funds were available it would be amazing to work on and fix up. big boat yes, bloody big infact and an amazing looking boat. I know a few chaos that could afford it and do the work but are not interested in a project now as thye have built there boats now. It goes to show though that there are some great abandoned boats around for the picking.

I wonder if the hold up is scrapmen want to cut up on site and the council say no.

I'd go for the Enironment Agency preventing it which is was kris suggested earlier. I'm sure the council would have had it cut up and disposed of by now if they were allowed to.

Couldn't you approach it on a boat, secure a line to the tub, then claim salvage rights under maritime law ?
