I actually bought the Howard Shore music from Lord of the Rings. There are some wonderful pieces. Rog I remember. There are some good pieces in there. One of the reasons I enjoyed lost was because some of the musical scores were fantastic.

Burned out transformer, replaced. The air is now turning a healthy pink colour instead of the icy blue (from the temperature and my cursing). It amazes me how quickly my home feels hostile, with just this single malfunction. I think of it as a fairly warm, well insulated house, but now realise it only remains so whilst the heating works First world problems I know, but I'm pleased I have the home care cover, meaning repair within 24 hours and at no cost (other than the two hundred and odd quid a month I pay already ) Debate can now continue over the 'best' central heating boiler. I will add my vote for THE ONE THAT WORKS Rog Our house is fairly modern being 23 years old and in theory well insulated but like yours it gets bloody cold very very quickly if there is no source of heating. Prior to us getting the multi fuel stove we actually had no heating source if the power failed because neither the central heating nor the power flue gas fire would work. We do get the occasional power cut so we would freeze if one happened in winter. We are looking forward to the next one and are going to be a bit smug when the neighbours are freezing. (Well we might invite our immediate neighbours in for a warm as they are quite elderly.)

"I actually bought the Howard Shore music from Lord of the Rings." - dogless Somehow I got looking at bits of it again and had a look at the Wiki article. There are some spectacular moments (although those 3 LoTR movies are never dull for a moment), and the scene when the Fellowship of the Ring enter the Great Hall of Durin in the Mines of Moria in the Misty Mountains is one of the best. I also like when they go through the Gates of the Argonath as their boats carry them along the river Anduin, shocking cinematography. There is a member here who, as I recall, doesn't want to see the Lord of the Rings films as it could spoil her impressions from reading the books - but I do think they were made pretty much in the mould of my imagination. "Perhaps the centerpiece of Zelem-melek, the Great Hall of Durin is eerily quiet and staggeringly large. The Enemyβs minions lurk even here, amid the glorious architecture of the Dwarves. Shining from the colored light of many-colored crystal lamps and polished to a fine sheen by ancient Dwarf artisans, the Great Hall gleams. Shadowy and vast, its masterful stonework sitting chill and dark, its mezzanines empty except for skulking Orcs, the Great Hall seems to brood. Where once this place held dancing, laughing Dwarves drunk on mead and gorged on bread and meat, now it sits vacant, a hulking hollow, eerily quiet and sad."
The Great Hall The Wiki article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_The_Lord_of_the_Rings_film_series"It amazes me how quickly my home feels hostile, with just this single malfunction. I think of it as a fairly warm, well insulated house, but now realise it only remains so whilst the heating works" - dogless Try sitting in a bus in Winter when the engine's off.

Left a cosy boat with a raging fire this morning to drive home whilst the new engine is fitted. Arrived home to find that the super reliable Worcester Bosch boiler is dead. To add insult our friends at Britsh Gas cannot turn out until 8am - 1pm tomorrow. My it is chilly. Pity the poor homeless. Off out for dinner at a friends so I hope he's got the heating on tropical mode. One bright spark in the day was the arrival of my calendar. The cover photo gets the blood pumping. Rog Your friend MtB from the other channel tells me that he can't understand why Worcester Bosch boilers have such a good reputation with the likes of Which etc. He thinks they are not very reliable, and when they do go wrong they are a pain to fix. He says he never gets called out to Vaillant boilers so that is what I'll be getting soon - our Vokera was old when we bought the house in 2003 and I have lost count of the number of times I've had to fix it. Mind you, I now know its foibles very well! Vaillant are pretty good but must be installed on a CLEAN SYSTEM www.google.com/search?q=vaillant+clean+systemAlso they have a bazillion settings so it helps if they're installed by a plumber who's a bit of a heating engineer, not just a pipe jockey.

That's right Foxy.
But you think of your bus with the engine running, like I think of my house with the heat source working, or we think of holidays under blue sky and sunshine.
Lord of the Rings is a truly magical read. A special book.
I don't think the films ever could match what Tolkein wove in one's imagination, but the music is first class on the whole.
Oh, and now I'm up to temp, my brains cleared and I pay two hundred and odd a year for Home Care, not per month (very pleased to say).
Rog
ETA Sorry Chagall, you said the same only much more eloquently as I posted.

That Ian McKellen (Gandalf) met Pru & Timmy in the episode when they went a-boatin' and a-floatin' darn to the East End of London, in a cosy-lookin' pub. I forget the name. Ian's local? I wonder if Magnetman knows it? The Grapes, Limehouse. Hmm... must visit one day. www.thegrapes.co.uk/ Oh, I see he co-owns it.

On the topic of warm homes, the last place we lived ashore was an old cottage built about 1650 and with immensely thick walls it remained an even temperature pretty much all year round. An open fire with a backboiler running 5 rads kept the whole place toasty and in summer despite the mercury climbing the inside was pleasantly cool. Oh we did have DG Windows Phil

Back on board, fire lit and heating on. Beginning to get cosy onboard. We've had an hour or so cruising and everything seems to work as it should. Even though I'm now proper posh like Telemachus, I'll still smile and talk to you lesser people. New engine and a Thunderboat calendar in one week! Does it get any better Rog

I know I'm late joining this party - time and chores are getting the better of me at the moment, but re boilers; When we bought the retirment bungalow a few years ago, it needed everything doing... I did the old "which" research and bought a Viessman (can't spell it from memory) - I bought it direct from a merchant and then arranged a gas-safe man to fit it... having already done the rads and piping myself. IT's got a stainless steel heat exchanger, long warranty and works a treat.
By buying it myself and arranging the fitting seperately, all in it cost just over 1k - MUCH cheaper than any quotes I got for someone to supply and fit a boiler.
Whilst I'm here, re washing machines... having used the hotpoint on land for years, I bought a hoover 1600 a++ rated on for the boat and it handles hot water being poured in perfectly. It allows me to turn off the heat on every program - thus reducing the power consumption and speeding it up too. we can do a 7kg load using the "cotton program" but by pouring 10-12 litres of hot tap water down the drawer in 59 mins rather than over 2 hours AND get the 1600 spin.
Can't stop - I need to tinker with the engine as I think I must have left the bleed screw a little slack when I sericed it the other day as it keeps 'searching'...

Good news!
The Italian Polish Chinese washing machine now has a shiny new element fitted and is firing on all cylinders and hotting the water up nicely.
It is on notice though. One more >Β£20 component fails and it's to the great washing machine scrapyard in the sky with it.
Fingers crossed that isn't before there's enough in the fighting fund to replace it with a Samsung or Miele machine π΅π΅π΅π¨π¨π¨π¨ππππ»
