Just heard we are 50,000 truckers short, will be worse after brexit. Can we afford to let truckers dawdle idly on t'cut, fiddling with blade and whetstone?

Just heard we are 50,000 truckers short, will be worse after brexit. Can we afford to let truckers dawdle idly on t'cut, fiddling with blade and whetstone? It's complete nonsense. Wages for HGV drivers have not risen in over ten years (due entirely to the influx of cheap labour from countries with post-Communist economies). If there was a shortage, then you would expect to see wage rises well in excess of inflation, this is what happens in a supply and demand economy.

Do you carry on working until March? Rog Yes, I intend to push off on the weekend the clocks go forward, 24th/25th March, and be out until September or October, depending how my savings last.

The bottom line is that the haulage industry is panicking that all the eastern Europeans are going to go home post-Brexit and they might have to give us a pay rise for the first time in ten years. Wouldn't that be awful, eh Jim?

The notorious YouTube video...

Shouldn't this video be sent repeatedly to the Dept of Transport until she's given the boot? (if that was indeed her driving in that car). 95-100mph on a motorway is just not on. Feel free to write in to the DoT everyone, and ask if it was her in that car! (Oh, I see she's gone already - resigned, and off to another comfy job?) (or sent to prison?) Although her standard of driving was a bit better than that of the camera car, who was also speeding in an attempt to keep up, which may have explained his 2nd lane hogging. "What is the safe braking distance from 95m.p.h.?", the video asks. Well, she dropped to a safe speed to enter the roundabout, without continuous braking, so she must have a good idea ... "Woops, that's right, Mrs. Bell. Excellent lane discipline" Better than that shown by the camera car; at least she stayed in lane and out of the hatch markings. (Unlike the camera car) "Doesn't mention this technique in Driver Conduct Guidance " Would that be the technique of getting into the correct lane, and staying in it?

Motorway speed limit should be upped to 100 now anyway, 70 is outdated.

I have a theory.
A few years ago, cars could still be unreliable sods, and drivers were very aware of the vehicles possible short comings.
Nowadays cars have so many weird inbuilt functions that drivers aren't even in contact with the fact they're driving.
It's a form of power without responsibility.
To up the motorway speed to 100mph would encourage many more accidents.
Not really a rant.....just a theory.

Lane discipline, tailgating and not paying attention seem to be the more common reasons. 100 maybe too much but 80 90 is easily achieved quite safely in almost all modern cars.

Any speed is safe until something goes wrong. 70mph is bad enough for that, 100mph is too fast - what's the hurry?

Exactly. These stupid cyclists on towpaths should just slow down a bit.

I drive a Citroen xsara it's sits comfortably at 70 but go over that it's bouncing of all the bumps and stuff and a bit wobbly in wind. So wouldent be safe at any speed.
