About 18" deep yes but the beam looks a bit over 7'. Once I get it on the Thames for the summer I will probably have a go at Dukes Cut just out of interest but I have no particular desire to navigate the coffin locks anyway so won't lose any sleep if it doesn't fit. I'm sure it would get to Brum and back but my main aim is to get off the ditches and do some open water boating. And sit around drinking beer in the sun on the Thames at Henley obviously You will need one of these www.amazon.co.uk/Thorness-Captains-hat-Size-Adult/dp/B001F2C4QU

I did wonder about that. Was planning to wait for a windy day and find one in the river. I have a nice organic hand knitted cotton legal red ensign I found which will be going on there
I missed a real opportunity today. Was sitting by the swale at queenborough with beer and chips and noticed a red and blue item on the slipway. Did not think anything of it then some old git wandered down with a stick and picked it up with it and it was a self inflating lifejacket. I missed a trick there.
I hate lifejackets anyway so not too concerned

I spoke to the bloke delivering the boat and he said that he had failed to mention something yesterday because he was unaware of it at the time I bought the boat. All paid - I bought the boat from an old git who could not deal with selling it - via a small boatyard and apparently he had not told them a critical detail about the boat... Apparently in the corner of the yard there is a dinghy which goes with the boat. A heavy GRP dinghy with a pair of oars. The bloke delivering it said the owner has asked to ensure that I get it. I just hope they can fit it upside down in the cockpit or I may have to hire a big sprinter van to collect it. I like that. No dinghy mentioned in the advert but obviously this boat had a keen owner and didn't want to see the two boats split up

I don't think the yard owner (man delivering the boat) is at all bothered about that. Might be wrong but I suspect its a good dinghy. I know what you are getting at its a fair comment. If it was a scrap dinghy you wouldn't haul it up onto a boat on a trailer you'd just push it in the creek

You will have to drop the captain's hat soon, at this rate you will be an admiral of the fleet.

I changed the delivery day to next Wednesday as tomorrow is forecast to be very wet and windy. And the bloke at the boatyard doesn't want any more money for leaving it there for an extra week (I did ask). Anyway I went to have another look, fill diesel up check other things etc and it turns out the dinghy is actually quite nice but also rather big. It was for going out to a swinging mooring for a couple and plenty of gear. Apparently the wife was into fishing and there is a proper flavel cooker with an oven on there as well. So they needed a big stable dinghy. That sounds like a good wife I've got a suitable dinghy so asked if it was ok to leave it there "I could collect it when I visit in the summer but if anyone wants it let them have it" I said. Boatyard bloke said OK and that he didn't even know it was there. So if anyone wants a heavy 10ft dinghy and is in Queenborough let me know (!). I like dinghies but this one is too big for my requirements and I have two dinghies already anyway ! The Colvic itself is wicked. Its a really nice boat.
