Chagall, that's very open of you, and takes nothing away from the qualities of the photograph.
I only mentioned that yours was a 'snap' to defend 'we small band' of none serious photographers, who never the less can get 'lucky' every now and again and capture a winner.
Any photograph I post (including the sunflower photo I withdrew last year after a similar 'spat' about how serious the competition was) will actually have been taken by Jane. I don't think it matters to be honest.
The photo you posted was a worthy winner, but some of the other 'snaps' were quality.

I'm not worried either way if it's 2018 or not. I can see the point of 2018 so that it's actually one that's been taken probably with the comp in mind. However I see the thunderboat way also of a picture the poster has taken at any point.
I am not sure why anyone is worried about what camera or phone is used.
A picture will ewin either because it's technically a good pic or it's a good picture.
We the voters will judge who wins based on what we think, regardless of how ideas taken.

Just to add. Stabbys selfie was horrific but it was totally thunderboat, which made it so good.

My winning shot in the first competition was taken 2013 or 2014, very early in the morning looking across Gerrans Bay from Portscatho. This is probably the area of the country I love the best and which holds many happy memories I was tempted to enter one of the other photos from that area in the second competition but in the end plumped for one from 2017. much as I would like to show off some of my back collection which does contain "boaty" pictures from other areas Bingley five rise by mudlarker2, on Flickr

Taken 2011 - one I nearly entered The colours are stunning IMHO and completely un-molested by any photo editing or filters.

Has the photo competition started already? No this is a exhibition of inadmissible images under 'foxy's new rule'.

Foxy's new rule is encouraging for us beginners. Up against photoholics with nice cameras and decades of stored photos I don't feel it's even worth pointing the camera. If anything goes by any family member I could get my son to dig some out, he has a 1st degree in photography and plenty water related shots, but what would be the point? I wouldn't even have to look out of the window.

I think mine for 2017 was taken on a phone from memory. But it was shot in 2012 I think. I do think in the spirit of the competition the shot should be taken by the person entering it but you can't really make it a rule as such because there is no real way of verifying it.
