I have put this in General Boating because it is indeed about boating and the canals and other waterways. The 2016 photo coompetition was around Sept-Oct, as was 2017's photo competition. I'm hoping there will be interest in entering photographs for a 2018 competition in Sept-Oct. I have started this thread now in February, as there is still a chance of getting some wintery shots before Spring brings its gambolling lambs and pussywillows. I'm happy for Martin to help out with the voting (in late October?) but I am also willing to undertake the task (if given instructions on how to do it). My only agenda is to give boaters here a kick up the backside to keep an eye out for potential stunning photos. Be aware of where you are, what the sky and Sun are telling you, and what might make you clinch the First Prize! The theme is boats and watery stuff, of course, what it's like to be boating and living on a boat, the beauty or harshness of the canals and waterways, history, canalware detail, drama, action, soft focus or gritty and black & white! You decide. There could be prizes - there could be a Thunderboat 2019 Calendar in the offing. I intend to 'bump' this thread once a month as a reminder. Try to imagine the deadline is next week - take that winning photo right now!

Haha. May of been late last year.
Disqualified already.
I only did it because it was on my Facebook and if I'd left it till October it would of been lost amongst all the rubbish on their but point taken. On both counts.

When the competition comes round there should be a thread for the entries. This is just a little thread to nudge you all along. Me, too.
And our next trip is in 2 weeks' time - I had a quirky idea to take ONLY panorama photos for that trip - it will make me look at the world in a new way.

No evidence! I just thought I've seen that before, I like the photo and it deserved another viewing.

K&A around devizes should be good for photos I guess its better if the pictures are taken using real cameras rather than mobile phone things.

They have been moored there so long that they have worn away the towpath leading to puddles - and all that just from getting on and off the boat ! I bet the cyclists and ramblers hate them.

To be honest most mobiles now have better cameras than most cameras. my s6 is pretty good But after doing a bit if urban exploring I'm getting used to hinting that picture and finding the best angle and light. So I will have our (bridge) camera to hand and will use that.

The quality is probably much better. When I have wanted to send a photo by phone (WhatsApp) I have often taken a photo with my camera (Olympus Stylus SH-1) and transferred it to my phone using WiFi (camera has WiFi built in and phone connects to the camera WiFi and sucks in photos), and then sent the photo off using WhatsApp. If you don't have a digi-camera, Magnetman, how about getting one? The days of cameras using print/slide film have gone, I think - I don't think they are even used in professional work any more. I like my little Olympus. I would say not to buy Panasonic cameras (Lumix) Made in China - they have poor reviews - is it any wonder?

I've got a nice Canon S1 as it happens. Old but very good quality output. I'll start taking pics with it

Canon S1 digital camera . 2004. Still takes photos onto an SD card which I can read with my 2003 Fujitsu Siemens P7120 sub notebook computer. I'm not keen on throwing money at new technology when older stuff works perfectly well.
