I've got this as well. It's for a big six cylinder Perkins electopak, we had it made for working in Esso Fawley as they needed exhaust systems to have effective spark arrestors, might be a bit tight getting in the engine hole, postage would be an issue too,the girl in the local Post office might get a bit arsey with me

Cauliflower = auto correct of Calorifier. I use it all the while now I'm off into the depths of the stores, back in a bit. yes I understand that . My boat doesn't have running water. I have a stainless steel cauliflower going spare Kris if you want it? I bought it to try something out on Joyce before I bought one the correct size. If you are in the Nottingham area we could drop it off with you, It would be a shame to throw it away as it was brand new when I got it given to me [it was that cheap it was a gift]

That's a kind offer Peter thankyou. But I think it's going to be a longtime before I'm thinking of fitting a caulifier.

You really are a very kind- and helpful guy gazza, always ready with lots of good technical advise, and even the supply of stuff that other members need.
I don't need anything, but I still do appreciate all your help to others, and the forum in general very much.
Peter.

I've got an old silencer for a vacuum pump at work, I'll look at it and see what size fittings it has, been so long since I looked at it I can't remember. I'll post the dimensions as well, if it's any good to you it's yours FOC, I'll let you know tomorrow. John is right, an increase in size won't bother it, it's not a highly tuned two stroke that needs the right back pressure and pulses to help cylinder scavenging Added, an absorption silencer will help no end, you won't get it as quite as a Panda Fischer job but it will be acceptable. You could consider keel/raw water cooling for the Genny in time, obviously there's a fair bit of work in that, would be neater than using the rad and fan and give you the option of a wet exhaust that will take the edge of very nicely indeed. With your current setup you will need a good bit of ventilation - not just for the engine but the generator won't like getting hot. It may well be worth fitting a bilge blower to get some positive ventilation thorough the engine hole.In the past, I've had generators in the enginerooms of my barges that did many hours without any problems, without additional ventilation with the use of a blower. I'm sure that the idea is good, and it will certainly do no harm, but I don't know if it's all that important, as the engineroom on Kris's boat is fairly big, there's lots of space (by the looks of it, as I've not seen it in the flesh yet), but on a narrowboat-or a boat with very limited space in the E.R. it would surely be neccesary. Peter.

The Onan in our narrowboat has no external forced ventilation but does have a very large fan (18 inches diameter?) mounted on the end of the actual alternator to blow air over the internals. It also has two silencers to ensure it sounds quiet outside the boat.

Iit's very sad and everything, but what can you do?

yes I understand that . My boat doesn't have running water. Oh, right, you've got all the right ingredients for a cracking system in time though! Here's the silincer. That measurements is from the outside edge of the elbow. It's approximately 5" in diameter. It has 1 1/2" BSP male nipples on the silencer, one end has a bsp threaded flange fitted. I've got some 1 1/2" sockets and 1 1/2" - 1" reducing bushes that will come with it. If you want it message me an address to post it to and I will go see the lovely girl in the post office tomorrow. I don't want anything for it or the postage 🚢🔨🍻👍 whilst it's bigger than it looks, I think I can make a do with it. Thanks Gazza. If for any reason I don't use it I'll let you have it back.

I get to go to the post office tomorrow and see the lovely girl behind the counter If you don't use it feel free to donate it on, it has been unloved on my racking or a good while now - the bit of kit it was attached to is long gone!

Telemachus if I recall correctly, did offer some concrete Doesn't really match up to Gazza's generosity. What a true gent! Rog Kris's silencer was easy. You'd probably need a combination of a ball gag and a 2lb ball pein hammer to quieten Nick's output - I can't help with either of those, a hammer being essential precision persuading equipment that I couldn't part with and the ball gag is just not my thing tbh.
