Hooray! The prodigal son is back. I've missed you Nick xxxxx Don't you mean the prodigal granddad Hmmmm, I was going to call you ageist then I remembered this quote, and thought better of it. When we age we shed many skins: ego, arrognace, dominance, self-opionated, unreliable, pessimism, rudeness, selfish, uncaring ... Wow, it's good to be old! Stephen Richards It seems highly unlikely Nick has ever heard or seen it

I shall and remember that when I'm feeling philosophical I've definitely got rid of 5/8ths of that lot already - although to be brutally honest I didn't get a choice with some of them!

Hooray! The prodigal son is back. I've missed you Nick xxxxx Have I been away? Well yes, yesterday we were out on the boat for the day and I changed the gearbox oil in the evening, and the previous day I’d wasted far too much time glued to my iPad - gave me a headache. Today was my mother’s 95th birthday and she had a bit of a party in a room in the local pub with a few relatives and friends, just got back from that.

Yes even I think it’s a silly stance. Blimey! Nick has put an apostrophe in a place where there's actually supposed to be one! No, I didn't. My iPad did it automatically.

Are we allowed to advertise on here?
I am a bit offended by advertising so if possible can we use words like "tablet" to describe touchscreen internet enabled non telephone devices please.
Thanks.

I bloody hope we are... have I mentioned "www.narrowboatellis.com" ? ;-) Purely from idle curiosity, why is your boat called "Ellis"? Is it named after Ruth Ellis? If so, couldn't you have chosen something more contemporary like "Shipman"?

no - it's my "middle name" - as a child, I was called it as there was ALREADY a "Mark" in the village... ergo, I grew up being known by it.. then, when I moved away (being the only gay in the village was not easy) I reverted to my first name of Mark... FAST forward 30 years, I thought quite like it (and miss it) and we couldn't agree on any other name for the boat... Ergo, "Ellis"...
PLUS I had half an idea my folks might cough up some money towards it... alas, that didn't work.
