I've just taken the Google Street View Man there - don't see any weight limit signs (on either side), but there's a combination lorry with yellow plates (Dutch = probably another Eastern European stabber-in-the-back) approaching the bridge. Have a look for yourself. Photo-scenes dated March 2009. Truck is Impulse / Scania. We came from the A59, so did not cross the railway. But I tell you what, we did cross over the younger River Douglas at Adlington, on our boat, where the Leeds & Liverpool Canal goes over it. And here we are doing just that!

and if Mr Wagstaff has recovered from his 'PTSD'. Leaving aside whether he has PTSD or not. Just wanted to point out that you can recover (even if only partly) from PTSD.

Mental illness is a vast subject, and as I recall there was a thread started in Thunderboat about it around a year and a half ago. Life is full of shocking stuff and we have to get used to it. Difficult decisions have to be made and we have to live with the consequences of them, especially hard when we know we have made them ourselves and can never be really sure was it the right or wrong thing to do.
I suppose some people go 'loopy' when they can't cope, and the people who would not be eaten by the lions in caveman days are the ones who can cope and keep on moving forwards. You have to be tough and cruel sometimes to survive.

Mental illness is a vast subject, ....... Yes it is. And in this instance you bought the subject up by 'denigrating' someone about something you admit you know very little about.

OK. So Dave Wagstaff has PTSD and the Polish bloke was ill. Let them both go free and back to driving heavy trucks up and down the M1. You win, Donkey. I haven't said they should go free. FWIW Wagstaff had an unblemished record of driving lorries for over 20 years, other driver can be locked up for life as far as I'm concerned.

It said on this evenings news that his license was revoked before the crash. Therefore he didn't have a license to drive. That's what i was poorly trying to say. I presume it would of been taken that way as I also presume wagstaff still has his licence at the moment as neither of them have been sentenced.

How do these foreigners interact with the UK drivers at the roadside truck stops?
I mean... You'd have to be pretty thick if you believed a pissed up Slovak telling you he went over the wall first at the Iranian Embassy siege, altho you could believe him telling you his brother was run down by a steam train back home!
What about when its time for the prostitute murdering? Do they stick to murdering only their own breed, trafficked over here under / inside their trailers for the sex trade a few weeks previous or is it a free for all where any whore on any street corner will do for a good knifing?
Do they talk shit like they drive shit? (The foreign drivers I'm talking about here! )

The Jam Roll will get eight years, Wagstaff will get two years. 14 years and 3.5 years - seems about right to me.

Lorry driver David Wagstaff has been jailed for three years and four months after he admitted causing the death of eight people by careless driving. The 54-year-old, described by the sentencing judge, Francis Sheridan, as a 'very decent, hard working man', ploughed into a minibus pushing it into and under a lorry, driven by Ryszard Masierak, which had stopped on the M1 in Buckinghamshire. Eight people - who were on their way from Nottingham to Disneyland Paris - were killed and four others seriously injured in the collision at 3am on August 26. Wagstaff, of Derwent Street, Cobridge, tried to help at the scene and has shown genuine remorse, Aylesbury Crown Court heard this afternoon. Prosecutor Oliver Saxby QC said Polish national Masierak was about twice the legal drink-drive limit when he stopped in the inside lane of the motorway for just 12 minutes. Masierak was jailed for 14 years this afternoon. He will also be deported after serving sentence and was disqualified from driving for 17 years. Other motorists sounded their horns and flashed their lights. He had earlier stopped on a roundabout and witnesses described him as driving erratically. Mr Saxby QC said: "This was a prolonged, persistent and deliberate course of very bad driving. He had consumed significant amounts of alcohol." Wagstaff was cleared of eight counts of causing death by dangerous driving after a trial at Reading Crown Court last month. Masierak, aged 32, of Worcestershire, denied the offences but was convicted of the charges by the jury. His barrister, Charles Sherrard QC, said: "He did not go out intending to cause harm or loss of life. As a consequence of his driving that night he caused a huge loss of life." Wagstaff's counsel, Gillian Jones QC, conceded the former Fed Ex driver's case was aggravated by the number of people killed and the number of people seriously injured. Miss Jones QC said: "He had an exemplary driving record. He had driven for years without incident. He is remorseful. "He is of previous good character." Judge Sheridan said: "This aside, he is a very decent, hard working man." www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/judge-passes-sentence-stoke-trent-1377658

"Masierak, aged 32, of Worcestershire, denied the offences" - what?
And what of those who were supposed to be supervising the motorway with their miriad of cameras? Why aren't they being charged for negligence? Let's have their names here.

Any news on your boat acquisition, Donkey? I'm looking forwards to the day you're stuck on rocks in the middle of a canal and are sending angry messages to CRT.....
