The "beast from the east" has arrived.
All I can say is WOW.
ITS SNOWING. A BIT !! AND -0.7'C on the outdoor thermometer.
Not kidding. I'm just trying to come to terms with the enormity of this weather bomb event phenomenon !

I'm wondering, as there are a few days of sub-zero temperatures predicted, if frozen canals ever damage boat hulls? I'm thinking probably GRP boats rater than steel.

Hoping it doesn't materialise. I'm supposed to be driving up to see friends this evening and my car isn't the best for snow/ice conditions.

Ice sliding sideways from a boat passing could do nasty things to the side of a wooden boat . i'm not sure about GRP. Would like to know as I'm planning to bring the yot (grp) on the cut later this week. Probably not a good plan if there is any ice about.

One of the coal boats had a problem with a punctured bow in the last bad freeze (memory fails whether it was Gosty Hill back then) but the ice was at its thickest, about 5 inches.
Damage is a secondary consideration though, my largest concern is the difficulty with steering if the ice is substantial.
I just don't think it's worth bothering.

I suspect he was being ironic!
Days of warnings of impending doom, and thus far in South Yorks it's been a tad chilly with a slight dusting of snow.
Just seen a forecast for later in the week, and now it's Tuesday to Thursday that's going to be armageddon.
The weather forcasting has become something of a drama queen.

Rog Quite possibly, but as he has (for some unknown reason) recently taken to making banal comments in response to my posts on here I'm simply returning the compliment.
