I've never thought of making up a name and address, email or phone number in stores ...I'm just to honest/stupid...I do have an email that is only used for stores etc and I cull nearly every email normally without opening them.

Who knows how much my business with them could have totalled. If they put off grumpy gits like me who don't believe that price alone is a basis for decisions and who tend to be able to afford that luxury, they may have alienated a chunk of their (potentially) best customers? I think the point is why cut your nose off to spite your face, fair enough if the item is the same price elsewhere or cheaper (Presumably meaning you would have gone elsewhere anywhere) but if it isn't then just make something up. So you shop only on price and I don't. I think in the long term it's you that's cutting off your nose. Taken to the extreme, buy everything direct from China via Ebay and the only people working in this country will be delivery drivers, but that doesn't matter because you got things cheaper. I despair at the UK's self destruction.

I despair at the UK's self destruction. Depends what I am after buying or what service I am paying for. The sad fact is that eBay is now the only place you can easily source certain obscure items that at one time you could pop into a local hardware store to buy. I didn't actually say I always go for the cheapest option. But the simple fact is on line retailing is very convenient, a convenience not always matched by the high street or retail parks. I will for example always use our local post office for delivering stuff rather than one of the big nationals or Herpes. (not a spelling error). Often it's more expensive to send stuff using Royal Mail but I have always found it to be 100% reliable. We are lucky to have 2 post offices local to us (a luxury these days) so I make it my business to alternate between them.

Of course the real problem is a fat lazy establishment used to taxing it's population until the pips squeak, covering every wasteful blunder and decision with another tax or law enforced layer of unnecessary administration.
