If you state I miss the point its only polite to explain what the point is Or maybe we just disagree or you have put me in a convenient pigeon hole.

For my part, and the reason I had a bit of a rant at Mathew Symonds on the phone, it's the divisive and 'sneaky' methods employed by C&RT to implement the changes I don't like.
They said they hoped to 'simplify' the licensing system......by his account Β£75,000 later and it's much more complex.
They said the proposals won't increase licensing income.....considering everybody gets a 5% increase with the prompt payment reduction, on top of which wide beams are charged 20% more.....how can that be possible.
If they'd come out and said, we need more income, everyone's got to pay more, or even declared they were converting to the 'charging by area' method used by the EA, it would at least have been open and above board.
Come 2023 I'm confident further charges will be coming in. I definitely predict a surcharge of boats without a home mooring for one.
I know they're not original predictions, but I'm sure they're accurate.

Maybe they believe or have been told by some clever consultant that there will be an adjustment of some sort ie large numbers of wide beams leaving the CRT system so the increase in costs is theoretically balanced by a reduction in license holders. This seems enormously improbable. People won't stop using the canals because of Β£200 a year extra.
Or they are predicting mass license evasion which could counteract the license increases.
Other than that it seems to be mathematically impossible that an increase in license fees will not result in an increase in income from licenses.
And it does seem odd not to just say "we need more money"
This sort of thing (yes I know its a broken record)

But the official C&RT line is that because they're not actually increasing the licence fee next year, licence fee income will not increase.
That's exactly the kind of duplicity that I resent, implying it's not about increasing income, when we can all see it is.
This is my 13th year of being a licence holder, and in that time the cost has doubled.
I accept such price rises (whilst not actually enjoying them) and have not complained.
It is the 'less than openess' of these changes I strongly resent, together with the initial attempts to split boaters as a single group.

Typical modern day widebeam purchaser actions... Saw them Coming up the Rufford branch last night, dusk going on dark,as I was leaving for work approx 20.45. I return this morning at 06.15.... top pound completely drained!! Good work useless tosserπππ

Then... Come round the corner to where I moor and the big fucknuggets moored on the bastard waterpoint!ππ If widebeam price hikes discourage dipshit, trendies, with their pet Labra-do / mongrel and 7 year old speccy 4eyed Tarquinon board, like this and makes them fuck off the canals, Iβm all for it! π

Name that boat - and report them to CRT.

Doesn't sound like they've learnt a lot in the mean time. I heard complaints about them all the way up the west side of the L&L. I don't think if fair to tar every widebeam owner with the same brush. As John said these kind of people won't be effected by the increase.

The increase would have to be huge to have an effect on people who have bought wide beams for one single reason which is it is cheap accommodation (no rent).
The only other way to prevent the cut filling up with this type of vessel is for crt to be much more draconian with enforcing movement.
That will be the next tactic.
A few hundred a year extra is more or less irrelevant. For this type of boat owner and there are a lot and more coming every day.

I agree with you Kris, it's not fair to tar all the widebeam owners with the same brush, but this by the looks of it brand new widebeam, and possibly brand new owner to the waterways, definitely needs some tarring to teach him what NOT to do, to make sure he's not going to continue like this. One way or another he has to understand that paying for his licence meant that he's allowed to use the waterways, but the licence isn't there to give him the ownership of them, so he needs a lesson, with- or without the tar-brush, but some tar brushing will make him (or possibly her) remember surely it a bit longer Peter. There will be plenty of narrowboat owners with the same bad- and inconsiderate behaviour than this widebeam owner.
